Leadership for Social Change, Class 4, Period 7

"Hey, everyone." Dinah waved from the front of the class, looking mildly confused. "Dr. Horrible's texted me that he can't get to class today." [There had been an incident with a Sticky Ray that had a few bugs still in the system. Not that Dinah knew that.] "But he sent me the lesson plan. So apparently like last week's design of your, uh, secret lair, this week? You're working on your 'tools of leadership.'"

She pointed to the computers with various design programs, art supplies, Legos, and various arts-and-crafts extras on the tables.

"He says here 'anything that will assist you in enlightening the masses, transport you quickly to your destinations, protect you from fascist authorities who don't appreciate your genius, and that has a remote control or requires you to wear a gas mask.'" She paused and added, "And if it explodes, I'm sure he'll be thrilled."

"I'm Jason," he said. "Jason Todd. I think minion-in-training might be better."

Ahahahahahaha. Dinah managed not to snort with giggles, but who knew what her face gave away. "Hi!" Calmer, Dinah. "--Tim Drake mentioned you. That you were from Gotham too. Uh. New Gotham, in my case."

"Oh cool!" Jason said, although he had to wonder what exactly Tim had said that made her look at him like that. "It's awesome having so many people from Gotham around. I think I lucked out, getting Tim as my roommate."

"It is," Dinah nodded, amusement locked away in a little mental Pandora's Box for the moment. "And you've met Bruce, right? Wayne?"

Because if he hadn't yet, that was gonna be another ohmigod! kind of shock.

"I've seen him, but I haven't really talked to him," Jason admitted. "My--the Bruce Wayne I know of is an adult, so it's weird that he's our age here, you know?"

"Oh yes," Dinah said vehemently. "I mean. He's way old back where I'm from. Fifty or so, I think." If he was still alive. "But he's pretty cool, here." She grinned a little, folding her arms. "And this place is almost as weird as Gotham is, so it's fun to meet people who'll probably adjust okay."

"I don't know, I think this place might actually be weirder than Gotham," Jason said. "At least, my version of it. I never thought I'd find a crazier place. Is your Gotham that weird?"

"It's pretty weird," Dinah admitted. "Crazy criminals. And a lot of people with superpowers. Metas? Do you guys have those?" She added, "There aren't any random flowers singing, or luggage showing up with your name on it in New Gotham. We don't get some of the awesome, as well as the chaos."

"Yeah, we've got metas. Good ones and bad ones," Jason said. "I could have done without the luggage, but some stuff here has been fun. Gotham is fun too. I do kind of miss it."

"Yeah, I'm going back there next month," Dinah admitted, feeling the twinge of that. "Gotham U. But I'm really, really going to miss this place, as good as it'll be to be home." She wondered about this Jason Todd maybe being Robin already; wondered about his counterpart, traveling in Europe. "...but it'll be weird to be back, too."

"You can still come to visit Fandom though, right? To see your friends?" Jason asked. "I'm going home soon too, but only for a weekend. I'm really hoping the weird stuff doesn't follow, 'cause I don't know how to explain a lot of the things that happen here. It's made messages home fun to write."

"Oh, definitely." Dinah thought of Jak, and said, "Sometimes time runs kind of wonky when you're home, but mostly from what I've heard, people go back and forth with no problem." She winced. "Like the luggage? Or turning into a girl? Ummm..." She tried to picture Batman's reaction to that. "Telling the truth isn't an option, I'm guessing?"

Jason shook his head. "B--my guardian likes the truth, but I don't think he'd believe me, even after everything he's seen in Gotham." He could have told Dinah about him and Bruce, since it wasn't like it was a secret at home, but he wasn't sure how she'd take it.

"Yeah, that's one reason I didn't tell mine for a couple months," Dinah commiserated, feeling for Jason. "But enough weird stuff happened, I felt like I had to come clean after a while. Just in case I disappeared, or she called and got a cat trying to answer the webcam."
