Self Defense and Kickassery for Dummies; Thursday Fouth Period [3rd. Class]

Today, the dojo didn't look like a dojo. Well, maybe because it wasn't a dojo anymore; advantages of teaching in a place with awesome technological resources, Faith could dictate her little attempts of classes anywhere she wanted. And hey, she still wanted to make a class outside in the field. Nothing like the fresh air of an ending day to get everyone in the mood. But, later.

Students entering the Danger Shop would find their teacher going over a new, more complicated Kata she hadn't showed them, and honestly, it was a sight to behold for a minute; Faith made it look as easy as walking, and she was probably doing it better than the demonstration video she hadn't just yet showed them. A single look at each entering student would suffice to tell from her intentions. Get to warm up or wait until the class starts.

And as expected, the time for the class arrived, with the already customary gathering at the center of the mat. "Today we get into the action."

Yes, that sounded promising.

"Well, not the really hardcore, interesting action, but the first bits of causing pain to other people. In self defense, of course." She had been close to forget that part. "We are going to get into the basics of Judo. So," she cleared her throat here, mentally thanking Wikipedia:

"Judo (meaning "gentle way") is a modern Japanese martial art and combat sport, that was created in Japan in 1882 by Dr Kano Jigoro." Maybe a little snort here. "Modern, alright. Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the object is to either throw one's opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue one's opponent with a grappling maneuver, or force an opponent to submit by joint locking or by executing a choke. Strikes and thrusts by hands and feet as well as weapons defenses are a part of judo, but only in pre-arranged forms (kata), and now you see why I insist on that sort of stuff, don't you? And are not allowed in judo competition or free practice (randori)." A moment to let the information sink in the young -and not so young- minds of the students. "The judo also is the point from which a number of other disciplines started, and it's the model of Japanese martial arts. This is the best way to get an idea of what to do and how to do it if you want to inflict pain or stop someone from hurting you, or anyone."

She motioned at the extension of the mat, this one wider than the dojo's tatami surface. "So, pick a partner, check the moves, and then get at it. I'm here to make comments, snark, and maybe allow one or two of you to punch me, again. Have fun kiddos."

[Wait for the OCD plz is uuuuuuuuuuup !]

Kurt watched Faith -- and although she was awfully badass, she didn't seem all that bamf-y.

Kurt tried the kickass kata.... and completely messed it up. And then, from there, he got all the bits of the other two katas mixed up and just ended up doing a bunch of warmup moves in no particular order.

Momoko went through the simple kata and almost had it down pat, now. She somehow was still managing to do the middle kata almost backwards in some spots, so she spent much of the warm-up time working on that. She tried the complicated new kata once, and actually fell.

When she got back up, it was back to the middle and simple kata.

Karla was just going to watch for awhile, trying to get the basic patterns down.

Hopefully, Faith was an 'A for effort' kind of teacher.

Wesley could not express in words how much he hated this class. Fortunately, his body language did it for him. He went through the motions lazily and accurately.

Well, accurately except for a few things. But he was pretty sure it was accurate.

As for pairing up, he was going to let people come to him.

There was far too much grappling involved, for Kurt. If he fought someone like that, they'd end up feeling the fur under his hologram, and that would just be all kinds of bad, and... Well, anyway, he sort of slinked to the back of the class and hoped he wouldn't end up with a partner.

Wesley arrived, irritable as always. If someone actually needed his help, though, he'd probably be pretty helpful. Anyone who was frustrated with Faith was worthy of his attention.
