Dating, Hooking Up and Sex, Class 2, Friday period 3

To say Dean was distracted this week would be like saying the Atlantic was a little wet. But being the teacher meant he couldn't actually blow off class to spend time with his dead mother, so he was present and more or less focused when the class filed in.

"Hi guys," he greeted everyone. "I know that a lot of you are in the middle of freaking out over visits from people who shouldn't be able to visit -- I'm right there with ya, really -- but let's do our best to just buckle down and concentrate for the duration of the class and then we can all get back to our freakouts." He took a deep breath and did his best to take his own advice.

"So last week, we did the introductions and most of you did pretty good imitations of a stoplight," he said, managing a grin. "Which, hopefully, if you get one thing out of this class, it'll be that this stuff is nothing to be embarrassed about.

"To get you started on that, this week we'll be doing what I affectionately call 'The Talk.'

"Now I'm going to assume you all know the very basics, where babies come from, the whole insert tab a into slot b spiel. If not, ask me or one of my TA's and we'll go over those details.

"So you've heard about this sex thing. You know the basics, and you're curious about how that all works, what the rules are, and all that. Certain things are going to vary from situation to situation, but there's some things that are, as far as I'm concerned, always going to be important.

"First off, sex is nothing to be embarrassed about, but at the same time, it's nothing you should ever pressure someone into, or let someone pressure you into. So yeah, no means no, and no is not a dirty word.

"More than that, this is something that requires full disclosure. Make sure everyone is on the same page -- if it's just fun or a symbol for something more or whatever. Best way to avoid awkward conversations later and hurting people you don't mean to. Honesty's the best policy and really, it should be the only one."

Dean grinned. "Beyond that, anything goes. Girl/boy is all great and fun, yeah, but there's nothing wrong with girl/girl or boy/boy as long as everyone's consenting. Two is fun, three or even more can be just as fun. Hell, you can have a lot of fun with just one and your imagination. It's a great cure for boredom, let me tell you.

"As for actual mechanics, basically if it feels good, do it. If it doesn't, don't. Everyone's different and has different hot buttons, part of the fun of sex is finding out your own and your partner's.

"Look, sex is a big thing that's probably new to a lot of you, but it shouldn't be scary or shameful or any of that crap. It should be something fun and pleasurable and awesome. Don't get hung up so much on if you're doing things right or wrong or how everyone else is doing it. If you and your partner(s) are good with it, it's all good."

Dean clapped his hands together. "So assignment. I want everyone to write a list of things they want to try some time with the right person. Everything -- and that includes stuff like holding hands and staring longingly into each other's eyes if that's what floats your boat. It helps to know what you're after, and what you absolutely don't want. You can make a list of that stuff too. I'm not going to make you share what you write with each other or with me unless you want to, this is more to help you get it all straight in your own head." He grinned. "Because next week we'll be talking about how to find someone to do all this stuff with."

Jonas was just going to...listen carefully. He didn't feel the need to blush but his thoughts were slowly going elsewhere to the way the Community had dealt with these feelings and he frowned.

Thank you, Jesus. Sookie had waffled about taking Gran with her to class until she remembered what class she had today. Then she'd assured her that she should definitely stay in the room, get some rest, et cetera.

Because yeah. She'd already gotten this talk at twelve, mostly because Gran was tired of Sookie asking about things she'd seen in people's heads.

The good thing about being a Black Widow was that this was familiar ground. So much of what knotted people up inside was sex or sex-related. Not to mention, the coven had a very sex-positive viewpoint--at least, after a female had her Virgin Night.

The theoreticals, she had down. It was the not-so-theoreticals that she wondered about.

Sookie sent out a little telepathic nudge. She figured Karla probably knew most of this anyway, and she certainly did, so there were more pressing matters to ask.

<< Did you get any visitors? >> she sent expectantly, smiling over at Karla.

Karla glanced over at Sookie and nodded, almost shyly. *I woke up to find my parents with me,* she said. *Considering I'd gone to sleep thinking they hadn't shown, it was something of a relief. But also...really weird. How about you?*

<< Gran, >> she replied, also sort of shy but clearly happy. << Your parents didn't come until this morning? >> Sookie's confusion shone through the link.

Karla shook her head. *They were on the island, but...* Honestly, she didn't know what they'd been doing and wasn't brave enough to ask. They were her parents, she felt odd demanding an explanation even if she thought she was due. *Maybe they needed some time to themselves. To be together.*

Karla tried not to let herself be hurt by that idea.

Sookie digested that. Maybe if Gran had come with her grandfather, she would have wanted time with him, too. She still wasn't sure if you got to hang out with other dead people in Heaven. << Maybe they were preparing to see you? >> she suggested. << Because it's been so long. And they didn't know how they'd react? >>

*Maybe.* Karla shrugged. *The important thing is that they're here now, even if it's only for a few days.*

That, at least, was familiar. Karla was used to snatching what time she could with her parents.

*I'm not not even sure why I'm in class today. I guess I just needed some adjusting time of my own.*

Sookie nodded, sympathetic. << That's basically why I came to class, >> she admitted. << That, and Gran wouldn't let me skip. >>

*I'm glad your Gran is here,* Karla said, giving Sookie a smile. *If you have some time, I would love to meet her.*

Karla paused, unsure of how to ask the next question without possibly rubbing up against a sore spot. *Your Gran come alone?* she asked. She knew Sookie's parents were also dead...

<< I have plenty of time. And I'd love to meet your mom and daddy, too, >> Sookie replied with a little smile. Karla's question made her frown, just a little. << Just her, yeah. Maybe whoever's sending them figures I have too many dead relatives at this point and should probably go with the most recent. >>

Mmm...shoe leather. Breakfast of champions. *Maybe they just knew how much you needed to see your Gran,* she said. *Unresolved things. Like letting her know you're safe and that Rene was caught. I'll bet she was worried.*

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2010-07-16 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Sookie nodded. << She met Bobby yesterday and made a point to thank him for helping catch Rene, >> she noted. << She'll probably want to thank you for fixing me, too. >>

*And I'll tell her I was glad to,* Karla said sincerely. *You're my friend. I wouldn't let you stay that way.* She paused. *Uhhh, she's not going to be bothered? That I'm a witch?*

Yes, Karla. The dead woman brought here by magic to visit her telepathic granddaughter was going to have an issue with your Craft.

Sookie muffled a laugh and shook her head. << Please. She's used to me. And she was really accepting when the vampires came out, too. She'll probably be curious, but fine otherwise. >>

*Right.* Karla squirmed a little in her seat, feeling dumb. *I promise to keep all mentions of the Darkness and Hell and Uncle Saetan to a minimum, too.*

Sookie gave her a reassuring smile, and added, << You don't have to? But, um, she's more traditionally religious than I am. Not as bad as talking to Rilla, but.... >>

Karla grimaced. *Nothing's as bad as talking to Rilla,* she muttered.

Christian was red to his ears and not looking at any of the girls in the class as he scrawled extensive notes.

Luke didn't really get a talk so much as he heard extremely filthy stories about his family from other people, but he basically knew all this and agreed with it. He didn't even have to take notes.

Jason was so, so, so glad he'd convinced his mother to check out the town while he was in class. He couldn't imagine talking about any of this in front of her.

Class number one had been weird.

Class number two was a little better. And he was in some sort of mood that might facilitate his involvement.

Read: Cloud was feeling airheaded.

Tab a went where?
