Competitive Cooking - Wednesday, Period 3 [7/14]

Piper was a bit distracted today since her mind was on the dreams she'd been having. So she just got right to it.

"Morning everyone. Today, you'll actually get to cook something," she greeted. "The instructions are simple today. I'd like for you to pair up and make anything you want as long as apples are involved somehow. That's going to be your secret ingredient. Afterward, Angela, Hoshi, and I will judge the results."

She realized that could possibly be a health hazard, and that she was asking a lot of her TAs. "Anyway, if you have any questions, any of us are available to answer them. Now, get to it and have fun!"

"Right?" Tara said with a nod. "I need to give up sleeping in."

Considering things, she said, "Definitely a crumb topping." Mmmm, crumbs. "Do you want to chop up the apples, or make the rest of the batter?"

"I can chop the apples," Sookie offered, grinning and reaching for a paring knife and an apple. "So how've you been? Feels like I haven't talked to you in forever."

"I know!" Tara said as she started to measure out flour. "It's not even like I was doing anything that interesting -- well, except the thing with Raven. Just ... work and class and stuff."

She dumped the flour into the bowl and added, "I'm good, anyhow. What about you?"

"Nothing interesting," she admitted, not really wanting to get into the whole dream thing. "You were along on the Raven thing? I heard about it from Bobby." Which meant that Tara likely knew about Bobby's powers now, too, so Sookie filed that away.

Tara nodded. She had noticed Bobby's powers, but barely -- a lot of people had been along, and what everyone did individually got lost. She wasn't sure how Bobby's ice thing had even worked.

"I figured he would have told you about it," she said. "It was -- sort of intense. I mostly ended up feeling really bad for Raven, 'cause of her mom."

Sookie bit her lower lip as she peeled an apple. "Yeah. She's stuck in that other dimension or whatever with Raven's dad, isn't she?"

"She went there so Raven wouldn't have to," Tara said gloomily, and frowned at the brown sugar she was measuring like it was responsible. "Raven was ready to go, she said goodbye and everything, and then..."

"I guess that's what moms do."

Sookie shook her head. She didn't know what her own mother would have done in that instance, honestly, but that was probably just her. "Do you know how Raven's doing with it?"

"Trying to get over it, mostly," Tara said. "I talked to her a few days ago. S-she thinks something good is coming."

She glanced over at Sookie. "Do you feel it? Kind of a warm glow. Raven gets it way more than I do."

"I thought I was crazy," Sookie said, smiling in relief. "Yeah, I feel it. I keep having these dreams, too. It's weird." She made a little face and added, "I'm not usually psychic, so I don't know. But it's something good."

"I'm not having dreams," Tara said, not totally able to keep her jealousy out of her tone. "What are yours like? Raven said hers were about someone."

She shrugged. "Weird but good is still good."

"My grandmother," Sookie said softly, pushing the peels out of the way and beginning to core the apples. "She died last month, so I didn't think too much. And there's always this voice saying, 'If you dream them, they will come.' It's really strange."

"'If you dream them, they will come'," Tara repeated. "Maybe you'll see your Gran again. Like a vision. Or a ghost."
