Infiltration and Advanced Sneakiness, Class #1, Period 1, July 7th

The Danger Shop was set to a walled cityscape at nighttime when the students arrived for class. The two teaching assistants stood at the ready position in front of the city gate, each in their official uniforms.

"Good morning," Elena said. "My name is Elena, and this is Anemone. We're not your teacher. We're his teaching assistants. This is Infiltration and Advanced Sneakiness. This class will be all about teaching you how to hide in the shadows, slip past the guards, and get where you're going without attracting attention. Especially if 'where you're going' is exactly where other people don't want you to be."

"As much FUN as causing a ruckus can be, it's not always the best way to achieve your objective." Smiling that was probably not reassuring, Anemone. "So today we're going to start with the basics. Hide-and-Seek and laser tag."

"With a few interesting twists," Elena said. She held up her weapon. "We have guns. You don't, at least, not yet. There are crates scattered around some of the central intersections -- some have guns in them, but some don't. Is it worth going after one? You decide."

"You can either hide all period, which counts as a win, or find a gun and take out others, also a win, but try not to get sniped yourself or you lose," Anemone cheerfully chirped. "This is a class about sneakiness, not killing stuff, and hiding well enough to survive counts. If you're really good, you'll find Professor Skywalker at the end of this class, which counts as the Ultimate Win if you manage to get the drop on him and tag him out," Anemone said. "But if you're that good, you probably wouldn't be here, and he cheats anyway --" which was part of why he was awesome. "-- so you aren't going to win that way."

"It's less of a win if you get either of us," Elena grinned, cocking her weapon, "but that Lesser But Still Impressive Win will earn you cupcakes next week. In five minutes, all the guns will power themselves on, so you'd better not still be standing here. Good luck. You're going to need it."

Kyle was listening, really he was. He was checking out their surroundings at the same time, that's all.

She was listening! Of course, the moment she heard what the lesson was, Ino's attention had shifted more to the surroundings than to the TAs.

But who could blame her?

James stared at the gun; unfamiliar with 'lasers', he knew that he did not want to see the business end of one.

Another Turk.

Cloud's life was awesome. Fabulous. Incredible.

Sneaky, he could do that.

It had been a few months since that last infiltration mission on Coruscant, but she'd done that often enough during the war (why had it always been Coruscant?) that the sight of the cityscape snapped Tahiri right back into that mindset.

She was listening to the lecture and taking in her surroundings at once with, if not practiced ease, a decent amount of familiarity with that sort of multitasking.

This would be . . . not necessarily fun, but it wouldn't be daunting.

Parker smiled slowly. Oh yes, this class promised to be all sorts of fun.

Kitty was listening. Also deciding that she wasn't going to be doing so much with the guns stuff, but she was listening.

Katniss had her ears focused to the girls and was listening to their words. But her eyes tracked over their surroundings, taking in the available nooks and crannies where her opponents would likely hide. Cityscapes were far less familiar than woods. No trees to hide in.

Alice wasn't a tracker, by any means, but her heightened vampire senses? Would definitely come in handy here.

Sending up a mental thank you to Jasper for suggesting it when she'd made a semi-flaily phone call home because of not knowing what classes to take, Alice shifted her position slightly and kept paying attention.

Leia was willing to bet her father wasn't even there to be found.

Or else she'd've given serious thought to either faking an injury or making out with a boy during class to make him come out of hiding. No one said she had to play fair.

Ready, Steady, GO!

You might want to take off and get away from the TA ladies. They're both really good shots.

Using an urban landscape to dodge and weave your way away from something chasing you was a Reese speciality. As soon as the word 'it' came out of Elena's mouth, Kyle turned and broke into a run. Once he was amongst buildings, he didn't maintain a straight path and got himself a decent distance away from the main gates before the five minutes was up.

Gunn wasted no time heading for cover and then moving quickly from hiding place to at least some decent cover, all the while looking for one of the laser tag guns.

Well, this class could definitely prove useful, Madison decided as she slipped off into the city and started looking for a place to hide.

Ino darted off the moment they were told to on silent feet and, once she'd gone far enough into the city, went about confusing her trail while putting distance between her and the gate.

Distance and height.

James scanned the area, looking at possible hiding places. This was no different than Krondor: find a hideyhole, stay quiet until the Watch passed.

He found a spot and hunkered down into a comfortable position, patiently waiting for the time to end.

And Cloud was gone. Off to high ground, were he could scope better. Mobility had never been an issue, and when he was sure he was relatively safe he got to abuse of those fancy gifts he had.

A gun would be useful, Ino knew that.

Heading for the crates made sense, but the fact that some of them wouldn't have anything in them made her dubious about it. There was no harm in looking though, right?

Ino's hands slid through a familiar set of seals.

She wavered, and then to all eyes, disappeared. That took care of basic visual detection even if keeping it up while moving would be more complicated--but just hiding for an hour didn't suit her much, not in this case, even if it would count for a win--and, to further complicate things, Ino didn't bother with walking along the ground.

She was going to creep her way along the walls instead, mostly silent, but true silence was something that was nearly impossible (for her) so there was sometimes the soft scuff of a sandal or the tiniest scrape of fabric against fabric. She was really good at this, but not perfect no. Ino felt a bit like a spider, but that was alright.

To the crates, first, to see if she could find a gun. If she couldn't well, hiding worked too. If nothing else, she was getting a workout for her chakra.

Anemone

[identity profile] death-of-hope.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
For a tall girl with long pink hair wearing heels and a skirt, Anemone was incredibly stealthy. She'd long ago abandoned her shoes, and was stalking barefoot through the streets, apparently completely un-bothered by the occasional gravel patch or bits of trash.

Her normal, bird-like movements had lengthened out, now more feline than songbird, and she didn't even have her weapon drawn.

Something wicked this way came.

James, also barefoot, was hiding in a crevice created where a poorly-designed roofline met the neighboring building on the second floor. He lay on his back in the shadows, breathing quietly, not even thinking, waiting for the hour to count.
