Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I
The recent cold front had been a welcome weather pattern as far as Zoe was concerned, and she was very grateful for how things had turned out today - it was sunny and breezy, and just cool enough that no one would pass out from heat exhaustion. Hopefully.
Beneath the blue and gold streamers and balloons, tables had been set up with drinks and food, including an entire table ofmoddable different ice cream flavors. As always, there was a stack of nametags set down next two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.
[OCD is up! Have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Re: Meet Your Roommate [Summer 2010-2]
No, it didn't occur to Alexander to glance at the young lady's name tag. In all honesty, he felt terribly improper were he to look.

Allow Alexander's brain a moment to catch up with all of that, and then, once it did catch up, manage to wrangle with the idea of a girl for a roommate. An attractive girl, at that. He flushed, just slightly, and now would feel even more improper for looking at the nametag.
"My sincerest apologies, Uhura!" he rushed in quickly, taking the offered hand not to shake it, but to kiss the back of it as a gentleman should. "I thought it only logical that I would be rooming with one of similar gender, but I see that that assumption was very wrong. And it's a very strange name to me; I've never heard the likes of it before! From where do you hail, if I may ask?"
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Summer 2010-2]
"I originally 'hail' from Nairobi. And you? Where are you from? What would like to be called?" She hoped that he wouldn't insist on protocol and curtsying all the time. No other royalty she'd met so far did.

"Could be Britain?" she said with some hesitation. He sounded so hopeful she didn't want to let him down.
Re: Meet Your Roommate [Summer 2010-2]
Thought that didn't explain why Cassima hadn't told him that name instead.
"Thank you, Uhura. I cannot express to you how much I will be in gratitude to you if indeed you are correct."

Chuckling tended to spoil the effect.
