Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The recent cold front had been a welcome weather pattern as far as Zoe was concerned, and she was very grateful for how things had turned out today - it was sunny and breezy, and just cool enough that no one would pass out from heat exhaustion. Hopefully.

Beneath the blue and gold streamers and balloons, tables had been set up with drinks and food, including an entire table of moddable different ice cream flavors. As always, there was a stack of nametags set down next two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[OCD is up! Have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Yeah, got that," Parker said, not bothering with the whole shaking hands thing. Social niceties were pretty much a foreign language to her. "But are you a vending machine. My last roommate was."

Wes' hand dropped to his side. "N... no?" he tried, hoping that was the right answer. And what was that about her last roommate? "Are you Parker?" he asked hopefully.

"Yes." She pointed to the nametag she was wearing helpfully. "Like it says. So what are you if you're not a vending machine? Werewolf? Vampire? Mutant? Alien?" Parker may have forgotten that that wasn't exactly a normal question outside of Fandom.

Wesley blushed. Way to forget how to read.

"I - ah," he began. So this girl was familiar with mystical creatures and such? And she considered vending machines among them? "I was trained as a Watcher," he said finally, trying to be helpful. Of course, in his universe, that would have been a sufficient explanation, while here it might merit a little more elaboration.

"And yourself?" he asked.

"Thief." Parker frowned. "What do you watch? That isn't anything dirty is it?"

"Oh, no, quite not!" Wes babbled. "Are you familiar with vampire slayers? Watchers are instructed to be their guardians. I was trained to instruct a girl appointed to fight demons and similar evil forces."

And - "Oh. Thief?" he repeated. That was... unusual.

"I had a teacher who was a vampire slayer," Parker said. "She didn't look like she needed watching."

"Oh? Well, I - I suppose not," Wes stammered. "As it turns out, one of my own slayers was, ah, self-sufficient as well, which is what brings me here to Fandom." Well, that and the fact that his other slayer was evil.
