BWI Airport | Portalocity Lounge | Saturday Morning

Madison was not pleased when she pushed open the door to the lounge with the Fandom High sign on the door. Like it wasn't bad enough that she had to deal with being dead, now Ron decided to send her to some lame summer camp so Kairos and Nakita couldn't find her.

She slumped in one of the chairs near the door. There was a black suitcase decorated with stickers sitting next to her and a dirty yellow and black backpack at her feet. Her eyes were glued to the door in search of any danger that might be incoming - in the form of dark reapers or new classmates.

"Uh-huh," Quinn craned her neck, looking for the familiar orange sign. "It's over there, see? Get me a black coffee if you're going."

It was as though Quinn had shown her the one true path in life. The path to coffee greatness.

"...I think I could get used to this place," Maladicta said with a dreamy sort of smile. All sharp fangs and happiness.

Wow, that girl had some pointy incisors. Quinn smiled back, then politely looked away.

"At least somebody's happy."

"An entire place that sells coffee?" she asked, closing her eyes and she inhaled. "We don't have anything like that back home."

"Wow," Quinn said. "You're from a place even more boring than Lima. I feel sorry for you."

She meant it, too. Lima was the dullest place on earth, as far as she could tell, but at least it had Starbucks.

"Is that in Genua?" It was going out on a limb, sure.

"Ohio." Quinn looked suspicious and sounded like she wasn't sure if the girl was that stupid, or making fun of her. "Genoa like in Italy?"

"Genua as in Genua," Maladicta replied, giving her very much the same look. "Where is 'Italy'?"

"Europe," Quinn said, frowning a little. "Where's Genua?"

The jury of messing with me vs really really stupid was still out.

"Rimward of Borogravia."

It made perfect sense!

It did! Except for the part where it really, really didn't.

"... okay," Quinn said slowly. "You can quit messing with me anytime."

"I'd say the same, but I don't think it would help either of us, to be honest."

"Mmm." Quinn was thinking about it, and not really coming to any conclusions. "Maybe you should go get that coffee."

Caffeine sometimes helped.

"I believe I will," Maladicta replied with only the cheer of a person addicted to caffeine could.
