BWI Airport | Portalocity Lounge | Saturday Morning

Madison was not pleased when she pushed open the door to the lounge with the Fandom High sign on the door. Like it wasn't bad enough that she had to deal with being dead, now Ron decided to send her to some lame summer camp so Kairos and Nakita couldn't find her.

She slumped in one of the chairs near the door. There was a black suitcase decorated with stickers sitting next to her and a dirty yellow and black backpack at her feet. Her eyes were glued to the door in search of any danger that might be incoming - in the form of dark reapers or new classmates.

"Wesley Wyndam-Pryce," said Wes, shaking Alexander's hand. "You as well." So not only was this boy nervous, but he also had the very same courtly manners that had been drilled into Wesley as a child. Clearly Daventry, wherever it was, had similar characteristics to England. Not that Wesley was a prince, or anything. He did his best to maintain nonchalance.

"If you don't mind my asking, where is Daventry?" Wesley asked, hoping the other boy wouldn't be offended.

"Err." Alexander seemed a bit stuck for a moment.

"Well," he ventured cautiously, "it's a bit hard to say. It's very far away from this land, or so I'm told, and the relation to it is a bit...fuzzy..."

He knew it wasn't a very satisfactory answer, but geography always seemed optional where he was from.

"Oh," Wesley replied. Not the most clever of answers, granted. Well, he had no desire to infringe on this boy's privacy, knowing all too well the feeling of having overly curious people ask the wrong sorts of questions. He decided to steer the topic in a new direction. “What are you hoping to study here at Fandom?”

"Nothing in particular," Alexander admitted. "Mother wants me to become more socialized, and she feels I can do that better here than at home. How about yourself, Wesley? Do you hope to explore any particular field of interest?"

Oh, right. Wesley'd entirely forgotten about that social norm wherein polite people responded to questions with answers followed by questions in kind. In Sunnydale, people'd answered his inquiries and then systematically ignored him. "Ah... I was hoping to study weaponry, actually," he confessed. "I've a decent hand in archery, and I've been studying fencing for some time, so I thought I might apply myself there. In fact, I received exceptionally high marks in my marksmanship class back at the Wa -- at my old school," he cut himself off. Well, that didn't sound pompous AT ALL. Sure.

"Is that so?" asked Alexander, not particularly noticing any particular air of pomposity, mostly because of his own interest in the topic. "I myself have just started studying a bit of weaponry. Fencing, mostly. I've got a lot to catch up on, but perhaps we'll have to cross foils in a friendly match once we get on the new stomping grounds, Wesley."

"Certainly," Wes agreed. Then, noticing Alexander's interest in the subject, he added almost shyly, "I think you'll enjoy fencing. It's challenging, but very rewarding."

"I have so far," said Alexander with a nod and a small smile. "It seems a very useful skill to have. I can't express how many times I've thought to myself that I wish I had learned them before."

Wesley smiled in agreement. "I suppose it must be about time to board the bus by now," he said after a brief glance at his watch, and hoisted up his luggage. "Shall we be off?"

"Oh," said Alexander, who glanced toward the bus, and then toward a clock. "Yes, I suppose it, and we shall. May the trip be a safe one for you, Wesley."
