Library [06/23]

Today had been a long time in coming, but the fact remained that with workshops ending this week, today was officially Sam's last day working in the library, Once he was done with his morning routine, Sam sat down and just relaxed, thinking about all the things that had happened here over the years - and not just about the time he'd snuck in to have sex here, Dean. As much as Sam was looking forward to college, he was really, really going to miss this job.

Chuck would never admit it, but he'd miss coming in here every week. He had grown to actually like the atmosphere of the library, but there was no way he'd come in here without Sam to visit.

"Hey," Chuck said. He eyed Sam just sitting there. "You run out of stuff to organize alphabetically?"

Sam snapped out of his thinking at Chuck's voice, and snickered. "I'm sure there's stuff to be alphabetized, but I'm not worrying about it right now. Maybe later."

"You're not worrying about it?" Chuck asked. "You sure you're feeling okay?"

Sam laughed. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just being nostalgic like a dork."

"There will be plenty of libraries in New York for you to geek around in," Chuck told him. "Big ones. With plenty of places to have sex."

"Oh my god, I am never having sex in a library again with the way you and Dean go off about this," Sam said.

"It's the only remotely dirty thing we have to tease you about," Chuck said. "We'd move on if you gave us something else to talk about."

"Or you could accept the fact that I'm not dirty like you are," Sam said. "That would work for me too."

"I refuse to believe that," Chuck said. "Everyone has a dirty side. Look at Humphrey. Sure, on the outside he seems like the most vanilla guy on earth, but I know my version of him has banged a teacher on school property."

Sam made a face and shook his head. "I'm not that dirty. Having sex with my girlfriend on school property is close enough. And not everyone is dirty. Look at priests." He got quiet for a moment. "Okay, bad example, but you know what I mean."

"I don't know what you mean," he said. Everybody was dirty, goddammit. They just didn't know it yet. "But I'm content with letting you be in denial."

"Gee, thanks. Do you think I just haven't hit my dirty stride yet, or I'm dirty and won't tell you?"

Chuck tilted his head to the side and actually thought about that question for a moment. "I think that you think about dirty stuff when you're by yourself, but you feel guilty about wanting to do anything that anyone might think is abnormal. So you don't say anything to anyone about it."

That...was actually amazingly accurate, and Sam's blush might have given that away. "And I think that the dirty stuff I think about should be kept to myself. No one else needs to hear about it," he explained.

"It's a shame you feel that way." Nobody loved dirty talk more than Chuck. "But my point stands. Everybody is dirty, even you."

"What about the students who are from like, Victorian times?" Sam asked. "The ones who get scandalized at girls who wear pants?"

"Kinky sex has always existed, Sam, even in Victorian times," Chuck said. "Anyway, those students are like your average virgin. Once they start having sex they become open to new and dirtier possibilities."

"Well, you're going to have to show them all the possibilities before you leave, huh?" Sam teased.

"I think I'd rather spend what little time I have left here having sex with people who know what they're doing," Chuck said.

Sam snickered. "People besides Dean, I hope?"

Chuck rolled his eyes. "We've been sleeping together for over a year now, are you ever going to get over it?"

Sam pretended to think about it for a minute. "Nope, not really. Because I remember how much you guys used to hate each other."

"Things change," Chuck said. "You and I didn't like each other at first either."

"You just wish we were having sex now," Sam said. "I think I've actually kind of gotten used to that."

"I want to have sex with most everyone," Chuck said with an easy shrug. "But you not freaking out every time I say something dirty about you does make things more pleasant."

As much as he hated the idea of ~~Sammy leaving~~ a change in his routine, Dean was determined to put a positive face on it all today.

So his reaction to seeing Sammy looking all maudlin when he came in with lunch was to smirk softly and say, "Y'know, I bet I could talk to Zoe and we could get some kind of Sam Winchester memorial put in here."

Sam snickered and rolled his eyes as he gave Dean all of his attention. "I don't want a memorial," he said. "Although a bookshelf that's taller than the rest might be nice and subtle."

"I was thinking more along the lines of a little gold plate attached to a table or something: Sam Winchester slept here. Y'know, for a certain meaning of the word 'sleep'." He waggled his eyebrows.

"It was only one time!" Sam said, like that would have any effect on Dean. "I never should have told you about it."

"Yeah, like I wouldn't have found out anyway," Dean said with a snort. "I always find out."

"Dawn wouldn't have said anything. It totally could have been our secret," Sam insisted.

"She wouldn't have to. The way both of you blushed whenever the library was brought up...."

Sam managed to only squirm a little as he thought about how they'd acted. "It was just once," he said again. "No one should get a plaque for doing something only once."

"Well it would make a more interesting plaque than Sam Winchester played Sims here many many times," Dean pointed out.

"Hey, I did more than that!" Sam said, scowling playfully at Dean. "That was only when there was nothing else to do."

"So... most of the time I dropped by there was nothing else to do?"

"You usually come by during lunch," Sam said. "I'm not always working then, just sometimes."

It was too hot for coffee so Claire had a thermos of homemade sweet tea with her. She hadn't dropped by the library in a while, but she knew this was Sam's last shift so of course she felt the need to visit.

"It's going to be so weird around here without you," she said.

"It's going to be weird not being here," Sam admitted, smiling at Claire. "I'm glad you came by. How are you doing?"

"I've been okay," Claire said with a shrug. She had been focusing a lot of attention on her workshops because they were all going to be useful in her plans to take down the Company. "I bet Peter is excited that you'll be there full time soon."

"Yeah, and I'm excited about being with him full time too. I didn't realize how much I'd miss him," Sam said, smiling like a dork in love.
