Ocker 101 - period four - week 6 [18/06]

When the students arrived in the Danger Shop, they could be forgiven for thinking they were in the wrong place. Given the rolling lawn, impeccably groomed and emerald green, the tables with actual lace tablecloths and the exquisite food, bone china and fine silver it would be a safe assumption. The tables for sitting and the tables holding food and tea were arranged under a large white gazebo which was covered in climbing roses.

Mick was sitting in one of the chairs, holding a delicate teacup and saucer, pinky elegantly curved. "Today we're going to learn about afternoon tea, and the proper way to behave if you're invited. Everyone take a seat." Once his students had complied, Mick explained the proper etiquette for attending afternoon tea, then nodded at the elegant tables. "Now it's time to put it to use."

[Do wait for the OCD, Thank you kindly.]

Edmund waited for the punchline. It wasn't coming. He wondered if a gremlin bite was responsible, but didn't say so. Like he was going to pass up the opportunity to try the tea first.

Jonas was...a little taken aback by this change of pace. He wasn't going to question a professor but the feeling was definitely there.

Cara was so glad she'd managed to dress appropriately for this class. She wondered if she could learn to make some of that food.

Jimmy looked over the tea set; the china was a bust, as it'd most likely break, but the silverware would fetch a fine price.

This was...different. Clark glanced around at the others and had to suppress a good deal of laughter.

"Would anyone like me to pour?" Edmund offered.

Cara carefully seated herself, smoothing her skirts, and picking up a bone china cup with utmost delicacy.

Somewhere in the Midlands, one Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander had just fallen down in an uncontrollable fit of laughter and didn't know why.

Clark watched Cara with a little tilt to his head, trying to figure out what was up with the dress - nice as it looked, it was no red leather catsuit.

He really needed to stop staring that way.

Because she happened to be casting a few sideways glances of her own, Cara noticed Clark looking her way and immediately started blushing.

He probably wasn't expecting that, but really, considering what they'd done, (without even being married or betrothed), what else could she do?

Re: Partake

[identity profile] redandblueblur.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Blushing? Clark was pretty sure that was his job when Cara got all ...hot and snarky at him. Maybe it was the dress.

"You look nice," he remarked, taking a seat beside her for some tea time. "Did I miss the note to dress up this week?" His t-shirt and jeans were out of place by comparison.

That just made Cara blush even redder and bite her lower lip. "Thanks. I just felt like wearing it today," she said, smiling just a little. "Red leather doesn't make you seem very approachable."

She'd probably manage to say something nice about Clark's clothes when she was able to look at him straight on.

[identity profile] redandblueblur.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Weird how she wouldn't look at him when usually Cara seemed to leer and smirk quite capably.

"That leather always made you seem pretty in control to me. Not that dresses are bad or anything!" Um.
wrongkindofsith: (How you doin?)

Re: Partake

[personal profile] wrongkindofsith 2010-06-19 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
"But sometimes I don't want to be in control." Like when hell froze over, to pick a totally random example. "And dresses are pretty, especially when Kahlan wears them."

And then she sighed, because thinking of Kahlan and her pretty dresses and her pretty hair was just the kind of thing that made Cara sigh.

Re: Partake

[identity profile] redandblueblur.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Clark started laughing and suddenly realized she was being serious with that sigh. "Wait, you don't want to be in control and dresses are prettier than red leather? Cara, did you fall and hit your head recently? Drink anything the crazy professor gave you before class?"
wrongkindofsith: (Not sure I need leather to scare the kid)

Re: Partake

[personal profile] wrongkindofsith 2010-06-19 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I feel fine." Cara eyed Clark oddly. What was wrong with liking dresses more than that leather outfit? "In fact I feel great about myself."

Re: Partake

[identity profile] redandblueblur.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey, feeling good about yourself is important," he agreed, feeling a little confused himself as he caught that look. "Sorry if I'm a little shocked by all the change. It's just real sudden, you know?"
wrongkindofsith: (And if you happen to glance my way)

Re: Partake

[personal profile] wrongkindofsith 2010-06-19 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
"But sudden isn't the same as bad...is it?" Because what other people thought of you was important.

Re: Partake

[identity profile] redandblueblur.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
She sounded so...concerned about his opinion. Really, really weird day, but even Clark knew that sometimes the weird brought the good. "Uhh, no? Though seeing you here all dressed up makes me wonder if you wouldn't wanna go to the GALA with me tomorrow?"
wrongkindofsith: (How you doin?)

Re: Partake

"You mean that dance?" Cara loved dancing, and would certainly never prefer fighting horrible monsters like Gars instead. "I'd like that."

Re: Partake

[identity profile] redandblueblur.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Clark's responding grin was huge. That had been much easier than he would have thought possible yesterday. "Awesome! I'll pick you up and everything."

"I'll be in my alcove." Cara smiled and blushed again, because what if her cabinmates thought she had something untoward planned for after?

Jimmy affected the most dignified look he could, given his dirty, torn clothes.

He turned to the person next to him, teapot in hand. "Top off?"

For some reason, Jimmy had no silverware, and the set in front of his neighbor seemed to vanish.

Even if he hadn't finished his tea, Edmund was on hand in case anyone was concerned about the sudden change in class topic. He was also on hand to shush them and hand them a fresh cup so they could worry about it later.
