Arts & Crafts, Period 2, 6-18

"Good morning, everyone," Steve said. "Sorry I had to cancel last week, something came up at the last minute." He was retired, but when the president called, he still had to answer. "I hope you enjoyed your time off. But we're all here now, and we'll be making dreamcatchers." Steve held up a completed dreamcatcher. You could tell he hadn't made it by how it looked halfway decent. For some reason, competency in this particular skill set eluded him. "Dreamcatchers originated in the Ojibwa culture, where charms based on spiderwebs were hung over infants' cradles to catch bad dreams, allowing only good ones to pass through--and I suspect we could all do with fewer bad dreams. So, normally I would show you how this works, but that would just teach you how to tie your fingers to a hoop. All the materials and instruction sheets you'll need are out, and if you run into trouble, I'll help as best I can. Get to it!"

Jonas worked carefully on his dreamcatcher. The name wasn't familiar to him and, even with the explanation, he still found himself thinking on it some more. He knew he was being too literal about things but he couldn't help it, he just kept picturing dreams getting caught in the dreamcatcher.

A project like this certainly required the most of Ariel's attention. If you couldn't tell by the slow, careful way she was working her fingers with the threads, and the bit of tongue poking out of the corner of her mouth as well.

That didn't exactly prevent, however, the occassional tangle, Ariel's fingers lifting and shaking a little to try to dislodge the knot she'd somehow managed to tie around it.

Didi looked a little different today -- the goth thing had gotten old. She'd brushed her hair back beneath a neat red headband, tossed on a cute sundress, and topped the look off with bright red lipstick. The ankh had just annoyed her and clashed with the dress, so she'd left it back in her alcove. (Or somewhere. She couldn't really remember where she'd put the stupid thing.)

She started working on the dream-catchers, but she didn't really have the patience for it. She leaned back in her chair instead, looking elaborately bored. Maybe she could pick an argument with somebody. That would be fun.

"Good morning, sister. I do hope you are enjoying yourself with today's assignment?"

It was the right thing to do, after all. Very logical.

Didi cocked her head at her sister, letting her features slowly arrange themselves in a sneer. "I hope you are enjoying yourself,'" she parroted in her best approximation of Del's voice. "God, do you always have to be so chipper? It makes me sick."

There was a blink, and then a confused stare from Del. "But sister, there is no reason for being so rude, specially so early in the morning." While confused, Del smiled at Didi anyway.

"Is there something troubling you?"

"I'm a couple billion years old and I'm making stupid dreamcatchers in a stupid classroom with stupid humans," Didi pointed out. "Take a guess. What's wrong with being rude?"

Re: During Class

[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com 2010-06-18 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am also a couple of billion years old, dear sister, and if I recall correctly, that has never stopped us from mingling with humans." She was making a mental note to look for Didi later, and feed large amounts of ice cream to her.

"If I had to guess, I would say you are not having a good day." Which was a shame, considering the wonderful day she was having. "Being rude will only cause others to be rude, sister."

"Why're you being all formal?" Didi snorted, seeming to decide Del wasn't worth a real response. "You sound like you're on your way to a debutante tea party. Look like it too."

This was coming from a girl in a frilly sundress, yes.

There was a small from on Del's face. "You are avoiding the question. But if you must know, I am just having a very nice day, mind you."

"You look particularly charming today, sister. But, might ask where is your ankh? Such a important part of you should not be left behind."

Didi's hand went to her neck. "That old thing? I got sick of it," she said. "It's back in the cabin or something." She hadn't really been paying attention when she took it off.

Glancing to Del, she added, "I was thinking I might switch it up. Maybe make my sigil a pirate skull. That'd be badass."

Re: During Class

[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com 2010-06-18 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Now she was positively worried. "I do hope you have it somewhere safe; sigils are very important, and I should not be telling you this."

The other statement didn't really help to stop Del from worrying. "But then it would not represent who you are."

"Whatever, Delly-belly," Didi said carelessly. "Chill out. I'll find it. Or I'll put some whammy on a rad skull and crossbones. It'll be fine."

She shook her head. "I can't believe you're lecturing me on propriety."

Oh, Del had some things to say to this young lady, suddenly disregarding all that meant to be and Endless. But, she decided it was better to hold. Didi surely come to her senses. "I hope it will." Because seriously.

The sister shook her head in return. "I can not believe you are not lecturing yourself o property."

"I'm bored with always being right," Didi said, and rolled her eyes. "I wanna have some fun for once. That's all. You can take over as Miss Goody-Two-Shoes."

... oh, she was going to be furious at herself in the morning.

Re: During Class

[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com 2010-06-18 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well sister, I pretend to do just that."

On the other side, Del might even consider it fun in retrospective. She'll probably eat a couple of soaps for all the proper words she had been saying that day.

[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com 2010-06-18 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Del's dreamcatcher was coming off...perfectly symetric. Patterns everywhere, and yet order. Yes, she liked the order.

Dreamcatchers were pretty, and she was going to make her's awesome.

And rational.

A dreamcatcher would be an interesting thing to have and maybe she could give one to Konoka when Asuna returned to Japan.
