First Aid - Danger Shop, Friday, Period 5 [Week 6]

The Danger Shop was set up like a waiting room again. Magazines and medical journals, a kids' table with toys and plates of cookies were scattered around the room, all circa 1960. The cookies weren't from 1960. They were real and fresh.

"Symptoms can look a lot alike. How can you tell the difference between a simple illness and something serious? The truth is, it takes years of practice and studying. You don't have time for that yet, so we're going to go through a case study so you can get a feel for what you should be looking for and how you should approach a potential emergency. One at a time, come through to the examination room. It's your choice if you come in. I won't try to force you. While it's not your turn, help yourselves to the reading material and the cookies."

Alex took a seat in the waiting room and tried not to think about how familiar that felt. He stretched out his legs and closed his eyes, letting the time pass that way.

Hiccup was a bit on the not-so-happy side today, so he was just sitting in his chair, tapping his metal foot on the floor (which was probably pretty annoying) while he stared into space and waited for it to be his turn.

Cassidy was happy to see Hccup and her smile said so as she sat near him and closed her magazine..

Tara found a couple of celebrity magazines and took a seat, looking through them for good gossip and shots of hot guys.

Kate was choosing to sit in the waiting room the entire class. Oh, it pained her to slack off, but the professor had called it voluntary and she just had so much to plan for Puck's little birthday get-together in the evening, even after she'd already handwavily spent most of her day baking.

So she'd be sitting here, in her sensible clothes, neatly writing down some further ideas into her notebook.

Rather than sit in one of the chairs provided, Cara paced anxiously, not sure what she was doing in this class. She didn't like being around people in pain. Not one bit.

And where there was an anxious fake little sister, there was also a Kate! Who looked up from her notebook after the other girl had been pacing for a bit, and went for a reassuring smile.

Ellie took a seat, grabbed a magazine, and then anxiously leafed through it. Waiting made her a bit nervous.

Emma was, rather uncharacteristically for her, not completely and totally put together. She had on a tank-top, a pair of yoga pants, her glasses, and her hair was in a messy ponytail. No make-up, no jewelry, nothing.

This was not, however, the influence of the island. This was because Emma had a fucking powers hangover, and would possibly kill the first mentally loud person in class WITH HER BRAIN today. The fact she had gone to class instead of just stay in bed was the only unusual thing, but she had decided to come in case Sookie showed up.

She was going to skip the exercise today, if she could, and try to take a nap in the waiting room. The chairs weren't that comfortable, but Emma had slept in far worse places.

The examination room was small and there was a patient sitting on the table, looking decidedly uncomfortable. "Welcome to my humble holographic abode." The best thing about the 21st century was all of the new words. They tumbled off the tongue so well.

Hiccup perked up a bit, because he quite liked this class, especially when people (even fake people made from light) weren't bleeding everywhere, and looked expectantly at Hawkeye. "What should I do?"

A question sure to fill today's holographic person with endless confidence.

"I'd like to introduce you to Mr Harris." Mr Harris was a balding man in his late 50s who looked fit for his age and had no visible signs of trauma. "Mr Harris, this is Hiccup. Mr Harris has been complaining of chest pains. It could be a problem with his heart, which would be serious, or it could be a case of too much spicy food making his chest burn. Now, without any extensive medical knowledge, you have to make a decision about how serious this might be. What would you do first?"

Cassidy was always curious about what they would be doing next in this class, so she was very polite and interested when it was her turn to come into the examination room.

"Hello sir," she greeted the patient, before looking at Hawkeye to get filled in on today's problem.

Mr Harris waved and then had a coughing fit.

"Mr Harris has been having some problems with his chest."

"That's what you're here to find out," Hawkeye replied, gesturing for her to come closer. "Mr Harris, this is Cara. Cara, Mr Harris. He's been getting headaches."
