Self Defense and Kickassery for Dummies; Thursday Fifth Period [6th. Class]

As the students entered the Danger Shop, they would realize they weren't quite on the dojo, or the mats. No, they were in the middle of a city, at night. It was a relatively quiet night, and the streets expanded to the horizon in front of them. It was, as well, awfully silent, and dark. Sitting on a bus stop bench, Faith would motion each and every entering student to sit on one of the chairs in front of the bench, in the middle of the street. There weren't cars around, of course. Differently from other times, the Slayer looked pretty serious. Relaxed and chilling, but serious.

Once everyone was there, she got up, but made a single hand wave to let them know they could stay sat if they wanted.

"So far we've seen the techniques, the katas, the concepts of fighting with skill and virtue. You are probably well aware all the fighting styles I've taught you follow a way of life. You know how it goes, it's the typical warrior of the light cliché everyone loves in a cheap movie. Not that it isn't a valid way to live." Okay, maybe she wasn't the one to tell them what was good and what wasn't. But she wasn't going to discourage them at the same way. Eh, Faith was still lousy on being neutral without sounding rude.

"However, sometimes you won't be able to think of your kata. Sometimes you'll be too scared, too tired, too stressed to get your mind to remember the things you have learned. And when that comes, and it will come, trust me, you will have to retort to fighting using all the raw power you can muster. It's a very elaborate way to say Fuck Finesse." And maybe she was smirking now.

"Reality Based Self Defense, usually known as RSBD is a blanket term for an approach to self-defense training that focuses on practical application. RBSD practitioners emphasize training that directly relates to the most dangerous of all possible situations. To accomplish this, it includes but is not limited to scenario and weapons training, and yes, we are talking about guns, knives, batons, you name it. In RBSD training prime importance is placed on gross motor skill training and simple, high-percentage moves. Furthermore RBSD schools minimize or eliminate elements of martial arts training that are not directly related to practical application, such as acrobatic or aesthetic techniques, rituals, ceremony and kata. As I said, fuck finesse, get the work done, get the heck out of there alive."

She gave the streets a look for a moment before turning back at the students.

"Most Reality Based Self Defense systems emphazise on a pragmatic and rational approach and try to reproduce real life situation and context including but not limited to:" And a list appeared floating behind her as she named it. Oh, she was abusing of the Danger Shop today.

  • training in practitioner's everyday or duty clothing,
  • methods adapted to practitioner's physical potential and fitness level,
  • trying to simulate real combat stress
  • multiple adversaries,
  • suprise attacks,
  • escape tactics,
  • third party reactions (by-standers, mob reactions, unnoticed opponents associates),
  • hidden weapons,
  • problems associated with carrying weapons and/or bulky webbing (for law inforcement officers and military peronels)
  • and some other stuff.
"So today...or tonight, you are going to walk from here to the end of this track of sorts, facing a number of problems along the way. You can go by yourselves, in groups, or not even move at all. It's up to you. I'll be waiting on the other side. The TAs can, if they wish, aid anyone and walk freely." That said, she started to walk down the street. "Oh, right! The track is bout ten blocks. Good luck and see ya~!"
And just because she could, Faith disappeared from view.

[Wait for the SUPER SPECIAL OCD IS UUUUUUP]
