Blending In, Wednesday, Period 6

When the students arrived to class today, they would find themselves inside a sports bar filled with televisions and loud patrons.

"There are few things that bring people from different cultures together better than international sports," Ziva said, dressed a little differently than normal. If her father was dead, he'd be rolling in his grave. "In case you have not been watching the television, the World Cup is currently being held in South Africa, pitting football - or soccer - teams from different countries against each other to see who comes out on top." The euphemism was easy to remember if you just thought about soccer players being on top of each other.

"There are two games going on right now," Ziva continued. "Pick one that you would like to watch, and then pick a team to cheer for - but you'd better put on the team's jersey, or you will get thrown out. Sports fans take solidarity very seriously sometimes."

She gravitated towards the food, on the basis of it'd be easy to grab some and then... avoid as much of the cheering as possible. She didn't even understand this game much less want a particular team to win!

"You look like you're thinking something similar to what I'm thinking," Triela said quietly as she stepped up beside Rosalind to grab some cover food for herself.

Rosalind glanced at her.

"Oh?"

"I could be wrong, but you don't strike me as the wildly cheering type."

"Not particularly," she said briefly. "Even less than usual in this case."

Because Rosalind very simply didn't care.

"Then it looks like I wasn't so wrong after all," Triela responded lightly.

"Would you like to hear congratulations?" she enquired. Only the faintest hint of a smile said she was maybe, possibly, teasing.

"Well, if you'd like to offer them, I won't refuse." Triela grinned just a bit. "But don't worry about it if it's too much of a bother."

"Far too much of a bother," she said meditatively. "You've not earned them."

Triela rolled her eyes. "Shows what you know."

"We should shoot again sometime," she said, shifting conversational gears. "You're pretty good." It seemed that someone was pretty good with understatement.

"I'll consider it," she said mildly. "You're not bad."

If Triela was going to insult her with mild praise, Rosalind was not above doing the same.

"Thank you." Triela had apparently decided to treat that as an actual compliment. "I spend quite a bit of time practicing, so it's nice to know that it's not all a waste."

"Practice is the basis for perfection."

Which Rosalind valued quite highly.

"It is," Triela agreed.

"Though natural ability and the proper mindset are important as well."

"Natural ability is inborn," Rosalind pointed out. "And mindset must be perfected as well as anything else. Practice is the work put into it."

Triela smiled slightly. "Natural ability can also be given, if the right tools are available." She held up one hand and flexed each of her fingers in turn.

"Though you are right about proper mindsets. They do tend to take work."

"If it's given, then it's not natural."

She considered the food.

"Even if it acts as if it is."

"Fair enough," Triela allowed with a shrug. "As long as the end result is the same I don't really care what it's called."

Her eyes followed Rosalind's. "At least the food around here tends to be decent."
