Journalism Class - Friday October 21

The screen behind Spider is lit up with the following message:

Homework. Extra-credit. Attendance. All of these things will be evaluted this weekend. Some of you will be passing this class. Some of you will be failing. Attendance and Homework are both requirements (although Extra-credit can be used in place of homework if you mark it as such in the homework post). This week's Homework counts as your mid-term and will be a third of your final grade. I will be reviewing your progress over the course of the project when I go over my paperwork this weekend, and participation is a large part of your final grade.

Also, attendance in this class is lax... but I do require that you show up (ie post) within the same day that the class is held. If you cannot attend class, please bring a note for an excused absence. I cannot give you credit for showing up for class in the wrong time continuum.

Spider himself is sprawled out behind his desk, talking quietly but earnestly to the cat... who is ignoring him in favor of a cigarette.

Once there are sufficient people in the room, he addresses them. "Good morning class. We'll be having a guest next week in the form of Professor Dream, who will help me to demonstrate the basic unreliability of most eyewitnesses and we'll explore the various methods best used to determine which version of the events is likely to be the most accurate. Also, I will be absent next Thursday as the damn cat has an appointment with Professor Dream's class in turn and we'll have a guest speaker for the day. If I can swing it, we'll see if Professor Cregg will allow you to practice a press conference with her."

Giving up on the cat, he rose to his feet and made a sweeping gesture. "Today I want each of you to find a professor or other staff member here on campus and ask them a single question regarding their field of study or profession and why they chose it. I want each of you to chose a different professor, so announce your victim below and, when you're through, please post their answer verbatim. The trick here is to make the single question that you're allowed interesting enough to produce a useful answer."

He grinned at them. "Have at."

Edited: Edited to include any staff member.

I will be talking to Ms MacLay

Chihaya looks mournfully at the front of the class and his shoulders slump. He's so behind on everything he knows he's in danger of flunking out.

Sighing, he breaks open his notebook to work on the ad campaign and try to figure out a professor to talk to.

Hitting on someone that just struck him out of the blue, Chihaya writes down..

Coach Ash.

Maybe he'll have something useful to say. He certainly will be interesting.

Duce considers a moment, "We'd like to ask Professor Abe no Seimei.. if he's around. If not, we'll ask the damn butterfly."

Buffy frowns when she hears Phoebe claim Tara. She sighed and thought about who she could talk to that would be interesting enough...

"I want to talk to Professor Jerusalem."

Xander blinks. "I... guess I'll ask Professor The Tick, since I talked to him yesterday, and he's an.... interesting... instructor. Not that we're short on those."

Unrelated OOC question, for the big homework project

In terms of a faculty endorsement, which our group has secured, what are we looking for besides "Yes, I'll back your project?" A quote for the promotional material?

[ooc: I asked, but Charlie's player has gone to bed. Stupid time zones.]

"I'll choose Dean Bristow," Krycek says, thoughtfully.

"Scooter." Jake holds up a hand. "I want to talk to the muppet."

[identity profile] courier-gavin.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Jake comes back. "I asked the muppet what he actually does here, and he said: "Well, I was hired to wrangle audio-visual equipment and organize and manage the technical side of things for school functions - assemblies, plays, ceremonies and so on. What I actually end up doing, on the other hand, tends to be a bit of everything: wrangling equipment, fighting zombies, sponsoring a club, helping lead field trips - as your friend, Krycek, can attest. Plus the usual sorts of administrative things like getting new students where they need to be on enrollment days and running detention."

"I think I'll go ask a question to Dr. Jackson."

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sir, I've spoken to Dr. Jackson and have gotten my answer."

"My question was: A lot of people I know that know you describe your field of study as the love of rocks and say you just like to play with rocks. What would you tell people about your field of study to convince them that there's more to Dr. Jackson then just a love of rocks and minerals?"

"And Dr. Jackson responded with: *laughs*

Archaeology isn't just about artefacts. It's the study of human cultures recovery, documentation and analysis of material remains and environmental data, including architecture, artefacts, biofacts, human remains, and landscapes.

While a number of artefacts are stone tools, they're slightly more advanced than just rocks.

And I do very little work with minerals, John."

Rory thinks, and then smiles. "Professor Dream."

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Rory returns from asking Dream.

"Sir, I got my answer.

My question was: Given your natural talent and affinity for the psychological side of things, especially the subconscious and dreams...what prompted you to teach languages here, rather than psychology, or something along those lines?

Professor Dream's response was: My affinity, as you call it, is for stories, conscious or subconscious.

I believe that language has a profound influence on how beings in all worlds tell their stories. By learning new languages, I hope students will learn new ways to see the world. And there is value in that."

Oz, who realises he's missed class all week, and is grateful Physics was cancelled so he could at least make one class this week, scratches his head tryingto think fo someone to interview.

"Um...I'll pick the Psych teacher, Drusilla."

Connor really hopes he doesn't get detention for missing Journalism classes this week.

"I'd talk to Miss Sidle, except she's not here this week. How long do we have to complete the assignment? Maybe...the new doctor in the clinic, Dr Wilson?"

[identity profile] deadlikegeorge.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
George makes a face. "Ugh. Talking." She thinks for a moment. "I'll take Prof Cregg if no one else has already."

After Class with Professor Jerusalem

[identity profile] positive-angel.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Once class was over, Chihaya fidgeted around with his notes and bookbag. He really, really didn't want to be alone with the Professor once he looked up what 'long pig' really meant. He took several breaths. He was a student. Teachers weren't allowed to eat their students.

Were they?

[identity profile] dbiers.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
D'anna sipped her coffee. Crap! Crap! Both the professors she actually had classes with were taken, as was Scooter. Bugger! She scowled for a moment, then her face lit up. She had to go there anyway, so why not? "I'd like to speak with the librarian, if that's acceptable, sir."

Okay, I asked Professor Ted why he chose to teach music and his response was:

"I didn't really CHOOSE to teach music. This dude, Rufus, told me I had to and Rufus is one pretty smart dude and told me it would be good for my future. So that's what I'm doing, dude. And now? It's totally fun. I get to hang out with a bunch of excellent little dudes and get paid for talking about music. It is most triumphant."

That good?
