Journalism Class - Friday October 21
The screen behind Spider is lit up with the following message:
Homework. Extra-credit. Attendance. All of these things will be evaluted this weekend. Some of you will be passing this class. Some of you will be failing. Attendance and Homework are both requirements (although Extra-credit can be used in place of homework if you mark it as such in the homework post). This week's Homework counts as your mid-term and will be a third of your final grade. I will be reviewing your progress over the course of the project when I go over my paperwork this weekend, and participation is a large part of your final grade.
Also, attendance in this class is lax... but I do require that you show up (ie post) within the same day that the class is held. If you cannot attend class, please bring a note for an excused absence. I cannot give you credit for showing up for class in the wrong time continuum.
Spider himself is sprawled out behind his desk, talking quietly but earnestly to the cat... who is ignoring him in favor of a cigarette.
Once there are sufficient people in the room, he addresses them. "Good morning class. We'll be having a guest next week in the form of Professor Dream, who will help me to demonstrate the basic unreliability of most eyewitnesses and we'll explore the various methods best used to determine which version of the events is likely to be the most accurate. Also, I will be absent next Thursday as the damn cat has an appointment with Professor Dream's class in turn and we'll have a guest speaker for the day. If I can swing it, we'll see if Professor Cregg will allow you to practice a press conference with her."
Giving up on the cat, he rose to his feet and made a sweeping gesture. "Today I want each of you to find a professor or other staff member here on campus and ask them a single question regarding their field of study or profession and why they chose it. I want each of you to chose a different professor, so announce your victim below and, when you're through, please post their answer verbatim. The trick here is to make the single question that you're allowed interesting enough to produce a useful answer."
He grinned at them. "Have at."
Edited: Edited to include any staff member.

Sighing, he breaks open his notebook to work on the ad campaign and try to figure out a professor to talk to.
Hitting on someone that just struck him out of the blue, Chihaya writes down..
Coach Ash.
Maybe he'll have something useful to say. He certainly will be interesting.

"My question was: A lot of people I know that know you describe your field of study as the love of rocks and say you just like to play with rocks. What would you tell people about your field of study to convince them that there's more to Dr. Jackson then just a love of rocks and minerals?"
"And Dr. Jackson responded with: *laughs*
Archaeology isn't just about artefacts. It's the study of human cultures recovery, documentation and analysis of material remains and environmental data, including architecture, artefacts, biofacts, human remains, and landscapes.
While a number of artefacts are stone tools, they're slightly more advanced than just rocks.
And I do very little work with minerals, John."

"Sir, I got my answer.
My question was: Given your natural talent and affinity for the psychological side of things, especially the subconscious and dreams...what prompted you to teach languages here, rather than psychology, or something along those lines?
Professor Dream's response was: My affinity, as you call it, is for stories, conscious or subconscious.
I believe that language has a profound influence on how beings in all worlds tell their stories. By learning new languages, I hope students will learn new ways to see the world. And there is value in that."

"I'd talk to Miss Sidle, except she's not here this week. How long do we have to complete the assignment? Maybe...the new doctor in the clinic, Dr Wilson?"

"I didn't really CHOOSE to teach music. This dude, Rufus, told me I had to and Rufus is one pretty smart dude and told me it would be good for my future. So that's what I'm doing, dude. And now? It's totally fun. I get to hang out with a bunch of excellent little dudes and get paid for talking about music. It is most triumphant."
That good?
