Library [06/09]

It was strange for Sam to think about how little time he had left in Fandom, so today, he simply wasn't. He'd found books to read, and he desperately needed to clean out his inbox, so he settled in at the desk to stick to those things and to try not to worry about anything else.

"Hope I'm not interrupting something nerdy," Chuck said when he came into the library. "Oh, who am I kidding, I don't care."

"Since when are you not interrupting something nerdy?" Sam pointed out.

"Fair enough," Chuck said, holding out a cup of coffee for Sam to take. "I might have a heart attack the day I interrupt something that isn't completely pathetic."

"Oh, sure, then it'll be my fault," Sam teased as he took the coffee. "I'm not pathetic, and neither is what I do here."

"It's matter of opinion," he said. "Just so happens my opinion is always right."

"Oh my God, no wonder you and Dean get along so well. That's exactly the sort of thing he'd say," Sam said with a laugh.

"I wouldn't exactly say we get along well," Chuck said. "But I won't deny we have some similarities."

"You don't think you and Dean get along?" Sam asked, genuinely surprised."I figured you guys got along as well as anybody."

"Okay, maybe I worded that wrong. We're friends, but most of our time is spent bickering with each other over who is the bigger douchebag," Chuck said. "But considering he's been making a habit of visiting me at work every week, it's something we both enjoy."

"It helps that you work where there's booze," Sam said. "I don't think Dean would have any problem visiting me here if we served beer in the library."

"He certainly took advantage of the booze last week," Chuck said. "You're a dumbass sometimes, you know that?"

"Hey, what did I do?" Sam asked, before remembering his conversation with Dean. "He was still pissed about me leaving early, huh?"

"I actually think he's more pissed you didn't tell him about it until a week ago."

"I didn't know how, and I didn't want to deal with him being pissed at me again," Sam said.

Chuck lifted an eyebrow. "So, what? Were you just gonna leave a note when you left and then lay low until he stopped being mad?"

Sam sighed. "I know, I should have told him sooner. We just don't do separation well, you know? Especially since I'm kind of leaving early."

"No, I don't exactly understand how people don't do separation well," he said. "But it was bound to happen eventually. It is a bit of an overreaction on his part, even if I get why he was mad at first."

"Well, I guess it's 'cause this is the big separation," Sam said. "It was different when Dean just had to come back to the island to visit. Now we're going to be in two separate places doing two totally different things."

Chuck nodded seriously. "You're right. I can't wait until someone invents the concept of visiting."

"That's what I've tried to tell him, and that I'll be right there if he needs my help. But he doesn't believe me," Sam said. "He thinks I'm going to get into college and be with Peter and forget he exists."

Chuck looked uncomfortable for a moment because he had been thinking along those lines, but about himself rather than Dean. "Well now that's just being overly dramatic."

"And it's not true. I'm not going to stop wanting to hang out with him. Or anyone else," Sam said, because hi, he wasn't blind. "I'm just going to be living somewhere else. I hate that he thinks I'm the kind of person who would just forget him."

"I honestly doubt he actually thinks that," Chuck said.

"It's how he makes it sound," Sam said with an honest to god pout.

Chuck rolled his eyes. "You two are such babies."

"We are not," Sam said. "We...okay, maybe the island wasn't so off base about the codependent thing. We like being close."

Chuck wasn't exactly sure how that was supposed to convince him that they didn't act like children. "I don't get it. And I don't think I want to."

"I guess you should be grateful you're an only child then, so you don't have to," Sam said.

"I'm not an only child anymore," he corrected. Seemed like Chuck gained new siblings every year. "But I do prefer being alone, yes."

"Siblings by a brand new marriage don't count," Sam said with a smirk. "That's a totally different thing, especially since you barely even like some of them."

"Whatever," Chuck said with a wave of his hand. "I'll leave you to the family thing; I've never been much for it."

Once he pings in!

Henry was dutifully finalizing his budget. if you thought you spotted him daydreaming about his date, you were clearly mistaken. A diligent librarian like Henry would never do that.
