Tara looks excited, as students trickle in, bouncing slightly on the balls of her feet.

"Okay, we've got a lot to get through today. Two announcements to start:

First, Teacher's Assistants have been chosen. I have a carrot - Major K! - and a stick - Angelus. If you're having trouble grasping a concept, talk to Major K!. He'll guide you through the thinking. If you think you've got a hold on it, talk to Angelus. He'll challenge your thinking, give you the opportunity to clarify your position.

Second, and related to the latter - this class is not an easy A. At some point in this course you will find yourself challenged and confronted. For many of you, that will be today. If you walk out of this classroom before class is over, and without checking it with me, I may be understandably upset. However, I recognise that if you get angry or upset, you may need some time alone, or away from the group. To that end, I present to you the ~~Emo Closet~~ Time Out Room." She walks to the back of the classroom and opens the door to what previously was a supply cabinet. Inside is what looks very much like a white padded room. "This room is soundproofed. You can cry, scream and punch things all you want, and I will not penalise you for leaving the class or the discussion. Major K! or I will come to check on anyone who goes to the ~~Emo Closet~~ Time Out Room, in case you need help or support. Feel free to tell us to leave you alone.

Now, we've got our first debate to hear, a discussion topic to... um, discuss, and your first out of class assignment. ~~Which you are going to kill, or at least seriously maim, me for giving you.~~

"Well, until this class," she says. "How about you? Considering I was a good girl and didn't even think about throwing water on you."

"Oh, it was just lovely until now," said Janet. "I'm not doing this." She sighed. "How do you feel about it?"

"I hate it," Elizabeth said immediately. "For those to whom slavery is an academic concept, it's fine, but if you've seen it..." She bit her lip and trailed off.

"Precisely," said Janet. "There is a very large difference between a mature individual who chooses to enter a certain subculture and true slavery. Could you imagine what Murray would think of this class?"

She shakes her head. "Just for curiosity's sake, let's trade rules sheets for a minute." OOC: As I'd been playing Janet it that didn't get to see the other rules.

"After everything he's gone through... everything he's sacrificed," Elizabeth sighs.

She hands over her sheet to Janet, and skims down Janet's sheet.

"I couldn't look him in the eye," murmured Janet. She skims the other rules over. "Is it just me?" she asks Liz in a whisper. "Or do these look like the rules for a bondage party instead?"

"Well, you can't really look him in the eye now," Elizabeth said, trying to keep a straight face. "Joking!"

She snickered. "Oh, I'm glad I wasn't the only one with a dirty mind, and thought that!"

Janet nudged Liz with her hip and smiled at her. "Short jokes will get you nowhere," she said.

She looked serious again. "I'm not doing this. You know I trust you with anything, Liz, but this assignment is wrong. How do you feel about it?"

Elizabeth pouts, with puppy dog eyes.

She sighs. "I agree with you on it. But there's also something Charlie said to me... the sixteen hours don't have to be waking hours."

Janet grins at Liz's pouting.

"No," she says. Being with Liz is relaxing, at least, even if everyone's raising hell around them. "I can't. Not even for pretend, not even for sixteen hours of sleeping. Professor Maclay told me she wasn't going to give detention on this one." Janet shrugs. "If you want to do the assignment without me maybe she'll find someone else to partner you up with."

"She's not giving detention? Then, no, I'm not doing it either," Elizabeth says, reaching across and rubbing Janet's arm comfortingly.

"I think she's got an alternate assignment planned," says Janet, reaching for Liz's hand. "We'll go tell her we won't do it. Do you want me to do the talking?"

Tara has been watching Janer and Liz out of the corner of her eye. They look like they've come to a decision. She nods at them, letting them know she's available.

Elizabeth takes Janet's hand and squeezes it. "Yeah, let's go."
