Flight and Flying [Tuesday June 1]

When the students entered the flight shed, they would notice a sequence of lights spread across the ceiling.

"Meet Drol," Anakin said, waving his hand. "The god of the moon of Iego, who brings destruction to all those who attempt to leave." He snorted. "In reality, Drol was a system of laser emitters programmed to track onto a ship as it hit orbit and blow it out of the sky. For today, you will be piloting a G9 Rigger freighter, which is neither sexy nor particularly speedy, but it's your first time flying in space--at least in this class--so I'm starting you in something that can take a little beating up."

He flashed them a tiny smile. "For you beginners, you will only have to navigate around the asteroids in Iego's atmosphere. People with a little more experience will face off against Drol. Figure out how to disable the system without exploding, please."

The thought had crossed her ~~player's~~ mind, yes. Convenient, that!

But kittens had to keep their claws sharp, and the back of that seat was looking just perfect for the job. Maybe if she went for it slowly, Anakin wouldn't notice.

Anakin loved that flight simulator more than he loved most people.

"Leia," he said, giving her a little glare. "No."

But her lovely claws needed sharpening! She looked up at Anakin with her big innocent blue -- not brown, but people seemed to change eye color willy nilly in a GFFA -- eyes while surreptitiously raising one paw to the back of the seat.

Anakin reached into the Force to grab her. "No."

Leia began to daintily lick one paw. She didn't want to sharpen her claws anyway, thank you very much.

Except she suddenly wasn't a kitten anymore. Ooops.

Anakin's eyes flew shut with the reflexes of a Jedi and he tossed her his cloak. "Welcome back."

Fortunately Leia barely had time to realize she was herself again and naked before her father's cloak was covering her. Also fortunate? That she was still crouched in a cat-like position so she wasn't completely flashing the class. "Thank you," she said, hastily yanking the cloak around herself as she stood up. "What just happened?" And why did she have fur in her mouth?

"You were a kitten," Anakin said. "The island has a sense of humor."

"...I really hate this place sometimes," Leia bitched.

The look on her face was so like Jaina's that he chuckled. "You get used to it," he assured her.

Not that he didn't still bitch when things happened to him.

"I am not going to turn into Luke one day," Leia insisted, remembering what her twin had told her. She liked all her parts as is, thank you. Hair and all.

"You keep telling yourself that," Anakin teased, looking at how big his cloak was on her. "Jawa."

Leia drew herself up to her full five feet (which didn't take much drawing), wishing she had something to throw at Anakin (though it was probably good that she didn't or she might lose her grip on the cloak). "How do you wear this thing all the time?" she said instead. "Isn't it hot?"

As in warm, Anakin, not the other way.

"I'd learned to ignore the temperature," Anakin said with a little shrug. "I grew up in the desert. After that, everything is a little chilly."

And the swirling cloak looked extremely hot, yes.

"And looking dramatic doesn't hurt, right?" Leia teased. At least he could pull it off and not look like a stupid jawa.

Anakin laughed. "It really doesn't," he admitted. "You should have seen Obi-Wan do his dramatic cloak tossing before a big lightsaber duel. It was right out of a holodrama. I've lost track of how many robes he went through that way."

"And you never did the same thing?" Leia said skeptically. She couldn't imagine fighting in something like this even it it was sized for her, meaning about ten yards less of fabric.

"Oh, I did," Anakin said. "But it never looked that ridiculous."

Keep telling yourself that, Anakin.

Of course not. Then again, Leia would probably think Obi-Wan's cloak tossing was dashing.

"Speaking of ridiculous," she said. "I should probably go put my own clothes on."

"Probably a good idea," Anakin agreed, "but you can keep the cloak. I have a spare in my office."

"In case I ever need to disguise myself as a jawa?" Leia said. She had to struggle to hitch up the fabric enough that she could walk without tripping over it.

"It could happen," Anakin laughed. "Just don't get caught stealing Ben's droids. I think he'd be upset."

"He'd never recognize me dressed like this," Leia grinned.

Anakin grinned back. "Tell me how that works out for you."
