Physical Education, 4th Period - 5/24

Today, there were ropes hanging from the ceiling when the students entered the gym. Which wasn't a massive freaking clue as to what they were supposed to be doing at all. Really.

Except for how it was.

"Today we're gonna try an' test you're strength and determination," Guy told the class. Because determination got you a long way. Like, into a coma! Or another coma! Just go with it. "If you make it to the top of the rope, you get a gold star. If you don't even try you gotta do it all over again. Got it?"

He was a benevolent dictator.

"Get your butts in gear, poozers!"

And then be a jerkwad about it, but whatever.

Who continues to enjoy this kind of thing far too much. Somewhere... rookies of Oa are glad.

Tim Drake

Tim could totally have done this in his sleep. It wasn't the secret identity holding him back today, though. It was the full-marshmallow-bag's worth of s'mores he'd eaten last night at the campfire plus the half-bag of marshmallows he'd had with breakfast. If he tried to shimmy up that rope right now, he'd lose that bet with Karla pretty quickly.

So he was staring up at a rope, trying to figure how he could do this without either looking like a total wuss or puking marshmallows all over the gym floor.

Zack Fair

Rope! Zack could do that!

And he looked entirely too happy about this fact, too. Just go with it. It's Zack.

... Really, if Zack couldn't handle a rope, then he had no place in an organization like SOLDIER. And he even gave a little wave from the top before jumping down, complete with mid-air somersault, like the showoff that he was.

Charles Gunn

Climbing a rope? Piece of cake. Gunn had been doing this kind of stuff for forever.

"Yeah," Gunn said raising his hand. "If we don't try we have to do it again? That makes no sense. And what the hell is a poozer?"

Mmm. Kilowog catchphrase.

Shane Gooseman

Goose had absolutely no problem in climbing the rope, making his way up with ease.

Guy grinned a little too much at that. "Somethin' a friend says. Now, you gonna climb, or do I hafta make you?"

"A gym rope?" Gun said waving away the comment. "Please. I can do that blindfolded."

"So, you're just BSing for the hello of it then?"

Kennedy

Kennedy might blow things off sometimes when she felt like it, but all things training-related were Serious Business, especially with a Watcher who personified Serious Business; this had been part of her routine since she was twelve.

Her climb wasn't the fastest and it wouldn't get the highest score for style, but-- taking advantage of her relatively light weight and fairly obsessive strength training regimen-- it was successful, and she was grinning smugly when she got back to the floor afterward.

"Hey! I was just making sure you weren't calling me anything dirty before I climbed that lame-ass rope!" Gunn snarked back.

"Yeah, I'm hearin' a lot of talk and no action," Guy replied.

"Whatever," Gunn said rolling his eyes and went of to climb the rope.

After climbing up and down the rope in quick fashion he was back to bug Guy.

"So. We going to do anything else today or can I go?"

Guy seemed to give that serious thought. "Nah, I think you can do that again."

"You're the boss," Gunn said rolling his eyes as he went to the rope again.

That got Guy to laugh at least. "You this much of a smart ass with the rest of your teachers or am I just lucky?"

"Hey, it's just part of my natural charm."

"Charm that gets ya landed in detention, I bet."

"Well it still beats jail."

Guy eyed him again. "No juvie?"

Liir Thropp

Liir wasn't terribly bothered by the exercise. It was a rope, after all. Where was the difficulty in that?

There was a moment spent testing the rope to his best abilities (namely by tugging on it and testing it for his weight since he had been the butt of too many terrible pranks as a child to count) before he put his arms into it and began to climb.

No trouble, really.

Vance Astrovik

Just a rope? If Vance could last in the UCWF, he could probably survive a rope.

The rope wasn't going to try to punch him, after all.

Vance needed to work on his upper body strength, so he didn't use his powers to give him a boost as he climbed the rope.

He really wanted to as he approached the top of the rope, though. It was more tiring than he thought it was going to be.

IT IS SO BAD TODAY. Out of nowhere, too. Geez.

"What? You think I'm going to tell my story to any poozer off the street?" Gunn smirked.

"Ya gonna start usin' that word now?"

"Hey, what goes around comes around, Coach."

"Get back to work, snot-nose punk," Guy replied, grinning too much to actually be insulting him.

"I climbed the rope two times! How much work do I have to do?" he said with exaggerated waves at the rope.

"Did I say ya hadta climb? Now skedaddle."

K-Mart wiggled her way up the rope and back down in record time. Hey, all that running from zombies made you freakin' quick.
