Being Marooned [Thursday, May 20]

"Oh, you came back!" Jack said, looking a little surprised as his class joined him again on the beach. "How terribly responsible of you. Today we're going to exploring our surroundings, savvy? Can't plan a very effective escape without knowing if there--just to pull an example from the air, you see--might be a secret cache of rum left behind by rum runners over by yonder tree."

There wasn't, but Jack remained hopeful that someday he'd find the secret hiding place for alcohol on the island that wasn't at Caritas. He was sure the squirrels were putting it somewhere.

"To that purpose and end, today you will pair up, take these maps that I drew myself," or bought from Turtle & Canary, but that didn't seem properly pirate-y, "and go searching for treasure! I've buried a lovely lunch for you at various locations around the island."

Assuming you liked pie, oranges, and beef jerky.

He made a shooing motion. "Go on now. Go away."

Yes, again. You can't really get into the proper spirit of the class without an eyepatch. It's true.

At this rate, Makita was going to create her own outfit on her next Pixie Dust shift. At least then she wouldn't need to wear... whatever this fabric was supposed to be. Plastic?

Leda didn't mind dressing like a pirate. It sure as well beat dressing like a princess.

Christian skipped the eyepatch, but he did have a dashing coat, several scarves, and a hat with a large feather. He actually liked the way he looked.

Tim picked out a long coat and boots and tied a scarf around his head.

It was a good thing that Kate really actually liked the outfit she'd picked last week.

And it was still better than having to wear a school uniform all the time.

Again Del looked like a smaller version of Jack, but this time she had eye patches.

Three eye patches. She also had a hat now.

Layla cheerfully got back into her tavern wench outfit and ready for a day of exploring.

Kurt got dressed in his swashbuckler costume again. He was DASHING!

There are enough maps for each team of two to have one, and X's drawn in various locations around town.

He really did pack you all lunch. Be afraid.

(Locations of treasure completely moddable, but it's Jack, so the chests will be stuck in trees, buried in the sand, stuffed under park benches, etc. Shovels are provided.)

Leda grabbed a map and looked around for a partner.

Christian turned the map this way and that, trying to interpret it as he waited for a partner. There was something terribly romantic about buried treasure.

"Do you know how to hunt a treasure?" Del needed someone with serious skillz.

"I've read about it in stories." That was a no. "But I'm eager to try, aren't you?"

Del nodded. "But we need some bait...what does a treasure eat?"

"I don't think they do eat, do they?" Poor Christian, utterly unfamiliar with Delirium logic. "They're gold coins and things like that."

Yeah...sucks to be him.

"Then they eat....greed and bank accounts?"

"I suppose so," Christian said, trying to keep his equilibrium. "I don't have either of those things, but I do have" -- he checked his pockets -- "three shillings ninepence. And a watch. Would that help?"

"It's a golden watch that calls for his friends?", said as she picked it. And lo, it was now! "He will tell us when the sister coins are hiding."

No watches will be permanently changed and/or harmed in this treasure hunt.

"Of course it will." Christian didn't believe that at all, but he was always willing to go along with a bit of whimsy. "Which way should we go?"

Del threw the watch up, and it floated for a couple of seconds before darting...somewhere.

"Over there." And she was already running after it. Screw the maps.

Christian trotted after her, grateful he had the advantage in height. "How is it -- Are you another witch?"

"I'm not human; I'm an Endless." She then realized they hadn't really...wait, hadn't they? Hmmm... "Delirium, that's me. Most of the times I think. Does one name changes when it's not used frequently? Like, you can be Mat, but if nobody calls you Mat in a while, you might end up being Rick."

Just another normal day.

"I don't know," Christian answered. he decided the Endless thing was a problem for another day. "I've never had a name besides Christian. Do you think I should start calling myself something else and see if it lasts?"

Delirium actually took a moment to consider that. "Nah, Christian is a pretty name." Not as pretty as if it started with a D, but hey, he was trying. "You would need to tell everyone everyone everyone about your new name, and they there would be parties and duels and people would need to write your new name in their little black mind books."

Kurt perused the map carefully, planning his route. Assuming Herr Sparrow put the Xs at least SOMEWHAT near the right locations on the map -- and Kurt wasn't all that sure that it was a reasonable assumption to make -- it shouldn't take all very long.

After a nice spot of treasure hunting, there's nothing better than eating your findings while staring out at the water.

And working on your tan.
