Deep Thoughts (Thursday evening)

Anakin propped open the door to the Professor Logan's music room in preparation for the second meeting of the Deep Thoughts Club.

He had an instructional video under his arm and a sign that said "Emo Brigade members welcome."

He grabbed one of the nearest desks, sprawled into it and prepared to be emo bood think deep thoughts with his fellow members.

He also hoped Professor Logan hadn't gotten his hands on the banthabell CD.

Angela signs in, looking appropriately miserable. "So this is the club for people who broke up with their boyfriends, right?"

Anakin looked up from his inspection of the floor. "Absolutely," he replied. "Pull up a chair. And I think there's some junk food around here." He pointed at the teacher's desk. "Lower right hand drawer, I believe."

Angela goes to the desk and pulls out a Tootsie Roll pop, which she unwraps after she collapses into a chair. she then stares at the wrapper as though the secrets to life's mysteries are contained in the cartoon of the Indian.

She sighs. "Why does everything have to be so, like, hard all the time?"

Anakin sighed, too, because it's totally contagious. "I don't know. "

He turned in his desk and looked at her. "Break-up, huh? That sucks."

"I know," Angela says, biting into her lollypop. She chews the piece that breaks off and swallows the sickly-sweet red shards before speaking again. "I mean, if it's not right, it's not right. Right? But it still hurts."

Anakin nodded. "And sometimes even if it is right, it hurts." He scowled and scuffed his boots on the floor. "Stupid emotions."

Angela nods vigorously, or as vigorously as she can manage from proper sullen emo posture.

"Stupid feelings," she scowls. "But maybe they're good. I mean, at least we aren't completely shallow."

She leans back in her chair and stares at the ceiling. "I just wish I could, like, turn them off right now."

Anakin walked over to the desk and rummaged around until he found a Twinkie.

He slumped back in his chair and unwrapped it. "I guess emotions could be good. Most of my training has been beings telling me to take control of them, deny them power over me." He lifted an eyebrow. "Sometimes a good wallow just beats everything else, though, you know?"

Angela nods. "Wallowing. Or brooding. Sometimes sulking."

She chomps on her lollypop again. "I mean, it's nopt like I evwen know what I want to do, right? So wallowing is all there is."

She stretches out her legs. "How are things with Padme? I saw you guys in Deb's this weekend."

Anakin continued staring at the floor. "Complicated. I mean, not between us, but it's kinda not a thing that we're supposed to be doing, you know? At least where we come from." He scowled. "Parents' Weekend is going to be awful."

"Tell me about it," Angela drawls, or as close to a drawl as an east coast accent will get. "My mom and my little sister are going to be up. Between playing dodge the weirdness and dodge the ex- boyfriend..." she groans. "It's gonna suck."

She sucks on the lollypop stem. "I don't know, maybe it would be better if she just pulled me out of this school."

"Who's coming for you?"

"My old teacher. Current teacher. Um, we call them masters, but that seems to bring out some snickering on this world." Anakin yanked at his braid. "He's in charge of my education, my progress along the path to being a Jedi, my life until I pass the trials and become a Jedi Knight myself."

He rolled his eyes and began imitating Obi-Wan. "'Which, at the rate you're going, young Padawan, will be when you're as old as Master Yoda and not a day before.'" He groaned. "He sent me here because he wanted a break, I'm convinced of it. Couldn't handle dealing with the Chosen One a second more."

Anakin looked shocked for a split second as he thought about the question. "Yeah, I guess I do. I mean, I've known her forever, but this--", he gestured helplessly, "thing between us is kinda new."

He stared at Lee. "Why?"
