Jono was doing that thing that Jono did, where he pointedly ignored things that were bothering him, because the alternative meant that he would be facing those things, and that was all the worse, really.

This meant mostly that Jonothon's shift in the library today was going to consist of him reading anything and everything that he could grab that didn't have mention of gods in it, because... Look, he had a family history that he didn't want to get into, here, and the convention that was happening on the island this weekend had him slightly perturbed.

And that was how he managed to get himself lost in a stack of Popular Mechanics magazines so thick that they, when stacked on the desk in front of him, did an excellent job doubling as a miniature periodical fortress.

"Building a fort, Starsmore?" Henry asked, sounding relatively upbeat. "I can barely see you."

//Reading,// Jono dutifully reported from somewhere behind a stack of... Actually, he wasn't certain what magazine these ones were. He suspected that they were written in German. He didn't know German. //About... Pistons, I think.//

Very important subject, those German pistons.

//Possibly internal combustion in general, actually. Fascinating subject, really.//

"Fascinating," Henry agreed dryly. "Just put them all back int he archives before you leave." Then he stood there for a moment as he decided whether he wanted to press forward or leave Jono to his -- whatever he was actually doing.

Pressing forward won. "I was kind of a blabbermouth at seven, huh?"

Jono actually took a moment to stand up so that he could look at Henry at that, yes.

//Possibly,// he replied, an eyebrow raised. //But no harm was really done. I'm not about to go around flappin' my gob about it, at least. I know better.//

"I'm not ashamed of it." That was hard to say, and Henry looked down as he spoke, mostly to collect himself. "It just ... there's exactly one person like me at home far as I can tell, and that's my daughter. I get twitchy talking about it."

Jono nodded at that, offering as close to a sympathetic look as he could manage.

//It... wouldn't be easy, being two of a kind,// he attempted. But then, he imagined that he'd take being a 'medical mystery' over being a 'mutie freak' any day of the week. //At least here, it's... just another thing.//

'Medical mystery' would be one thing; when Henry traveled, he was a naked guy wandering around odd places. He'd take being called a mutie freak, and happily, if he could just stay home.

The grass really was always greener somewhere else.

"Just another thing," Henry agreed. "I should start talking about it more."

Nametags, maybe. Pride parades. That would be bizarre.

"Now you know why I turned up naked that time, anyhow."

Jono shrugged, working on something that could have been interpreted as a wry smile, around his eyes.

//It makes you seem a bit less like 'that crazy librarian wot runs around stark bloody nude in th'middle of winter,' at least.// He shrugged again, and idly started gathering up the stacks of periodicals that he'd set out. He needed something to do with his hands. //I supposed there was something more to it than a brisk winter jog. In any case, I'm hardly in a position to judge you over it. It isn't something that most people care to broadcast, even where I'm from, if they have the option.//

"Mmmm." There ... didn't seem to be a lot more to say about this, was there? He felt vaguely as if he should apologize for having the option, but that was a bit absurd. "Pretty much, I have the most useless superpower ever. And -- I'm going to shut up about it now, and go to my office and file things, unless you have questions."

Jono could have offered up the fact that he was certain he knew people with decidedly more useless superpowers than Henry's. Like Angelo, whose superpower left him with six extra feet of baggy grey prehensile skin, and migraine headaches whenever he attempted to reign it in enough to even approach looking normal again.

//Nothing that leaps directly to mind,// he said, instead. //I'll have these periodicals away before I leave today, don't worry.//

"Thank you." Henry smiled at Jono, damned himself for caring so much what a teenager thought of him, and retreated to the relative safety of his office.

It has books! Are you surprised?
