Self Defense and Kickassery for Dummies; Thursday Fifth Period [1st. Class]

The students had been noticed handwavily that the class would take place in the Danger Shop. Once they arrived they would see the place looked pretty much like a dojo, and nothing else. Leaning on one of the pillars was the teacher, who didn't acknowledge or react to the students arriving until the time for her class started; for some Faith was probably just another student.

Once the time had come, Faith parted from the pillar, placing herself in front of the class.
"So, this is the deal."

She was wearing some casual clothes; comfortable enough to move freely, but nothing too excersise-oriented like, as it didn't go with her. The more perceptive students would notice she was probably as tense as them, but for the others she was just overly silent, and a little creepy. The first thing Faith did was motion everyone to sit down in the middle of the tatami. "My name is Faith; Faith Lehane. You will refer to me as Faith, and if I ever hear you calling me teacher or Ms. Lehane, I'll make your life a living hell. Where I come from, supernatural creatures like to lurk in the dark, and it's my job of sorts to hunt them down. The term for people like me is Slayer...and that's all you need to know." There, she was properly introduced now ."This is a course of self defense, as it's name tells. On every class we'll see different aspects of self defense and fighting techniques, from simple stuff to some other more complicated, but don't expect me to teach you how to kill a dude with your thumb only, or some secret martial arts shit; if you are here you probably feel like your strength isn't what you would want it to be, and so you need to learn some tricks to get your ass into gear if you need it." At that point she clapped once, rubbing her hands together.

"Well then, you came to the right place. Since this is the first class, we'll just go with the very basics, but before..." And this is when she smirked at them. "I want you all to stand up, say your name, reason to be here, and who do you want to beat the crap out some day."

And once they were done with it, Faith moved on to the actual course.

"Kihon is a Japanese term meaning "basics" or "fundamentals." The term is used to refer to the basic techniques that are taught and practiced as the foundation of most Japanese martial arts.

The practice and mastery of kihon is essential to all advanced training,　and includes the practice of correct body form and breathing, while practicing basics such as stances, punches, kicks, blocks, and thrusts, but it also includes basic representative kata. You want to learn your kata pretty damn well.

Kihon techniques tend to be practiced often, in many cases during each practice session; these will work as our warm-up. They are considered fundamental to mastery and improvement of all movements of greater complexity. Kihon in martial arts can be seen as analogous to basic skills in, for example, basketball. Professional NBA players continue to practice dribbling, passing, free throws, jump shots, etc. in an effort to maintain and perfect the more complex skills used during a basketball game. Practice makes the master."

Okay, see, there was going to be this whole introducing-herself thing that was going to include some bitching about how she didn't need to be in a 'for dummies' class, but Kennedy got really derailed really fast about two lines into Faith's lecture. The name had sort of rung a bell, and then...

And then, as soon as she got a chance to talk, there was Kennedy nearly knocking her chair over as she got to her feet, fingers twitching at her sides and looking straight at Faith.

"Slayer," she said, "as in the, as in..."

She'd been about to say 'supposed to be only one,' but she was a little fuzzy on the details of how it'd happened. And cue the huge freaking grin.

"Holy crap. I mean, holy crap. I'm Kennedy, I've heard of you, I'm here because I'm supposed to be learning exactly what you do--" and wasn't her Watcher going to have an entire herd of cows when she figured out who was teaching this class-- "and beating the crap out of the same stuff you do."

Kiiiiiiiiiiiind of a good thing she'd long since given up on keeping the whole Potential thing under wraps in Fandom.

Faith almost did a doubld take when Kennedy stood. This ain't happening. Damn you, Anakin!

How was she supposed to react to that?

"Slayer as in only one at a time." If this Kennedy was up to date, she would argue that sentence, as it was no longer true.

"Demons and vampires, I take? Who told you about me? She really sucked at gathering information.

Dru had watched the exchange with enough interest to pick up on Kennedy's squee. She waited for an opportune moment before raising an eyebrow at Kennedy. "Are you going to be forming a fan club before next class?"

Okay. Slayer. Of... monsters. Pardon Scully while she looks disbelieving. She can't help it. But she could keep her voice perfectly level and not at all rude as she introduced herself.

"I'm Dana Scully. This is my first term here." I've been shrunk, youthened, and sent to an insane boarding school against my better judgment. "I believe in protecting myself," she said steadily, watching Faith. Someone with enough experience might detect a level of discomfort with that flat statement.

The list of people she wanted to beat up if she had the chance was long and personal. She decided to settle for, "I'd like to take down one particular Russian rat who has it coming."

Wherever he was, Krycek was still very near the top of the list.

Ohhh, a non-believer. Faith had a knack for spotting those.

"Protecting yourself is a good thing to believe in, yeah, specially if you are...small." Faith was not grinning.

"Hah, Russians have a thing for having it coming, I think. Not all of them, but a good portion. We'll work on it."

Alex was used to said things that lurked in the dark, except no one hunted them down in her neck of the woods. "I'm Alex Russo and I'm here because I want to learn how to defend myself. I don't know much on that front," she explained. For once, Alex was thinking how she might fare without her wizard powers. She'd need some way to defend herself.

As for who she'd want to beat the crap out of? "There's a certain person back home who I'd like to get even with, for making it her job to make my life miserable since kindergarten."

Harper would know who she meant.

Faith nodded slowly. "I've noticed there are a lot of girls around, which is good; I hope I can train you to the point you can make that other girl's life a living hell, and if it fails", she shot a wink here. "Gimme a call."

What? She was growing fond of her girls.

Faith had to grin just a little more on this one. "And it's best if you have to kick them only once in the face, I get the idea. And I'm not entirely against blowing them up after it."

"I'm Denise," Denise volunteered, rolling her shoulders 'cause it looked like they were going to get pretty heavy-duty violent here. It looked a lot like hockey warm-ups. "I'm here 'cause it sounded kind of cool, and I'd like to beat up the guy I slept with last month."

Well, okay, she'd already broken his nose mid-- anyway.

"I'm Kagurazaka Asuna or Asuna Kagurazaka like you say it here in America!" She was practically jumping on her toes. A class about fighting? AWESOME. "I'm from Japan. I've had some informal experiences in fighting but I've only recently started formal training. Its mostly weapon based fighting with a little bit of hand to hand mixed in."

"Kate Gregson," Kate said as she stood up. "And I'm here because it's kind of obvious that the island's going to keep flinging dangerous crap at me."

And everyone else, but she was who she was most concerned about.

"So, I thought it would be a good idea to learn some stuff." A pause. "Oh, and I'd like to beat up... this one guy I used to know."

When it was her turn, Claire said, "Hi, I'm Claire Bennet. I am taking this class because I've learned a lot about fighting in my year here already but I want to learn more."

And this session of classes was going to be awesome in helping her bring the Company down, she just knew it.

"Some day I'd like to beat up my dad's former coworkers."

Crap. If she hadn't already dealt with Derek and Tori, Chloe would have been intimidated by this new teacher. But then, Faith said what she did about hunting down supernatural creatures and Chloe went a little bit pale.

"C-Chloe S-Saunders," she finally managed to make herself say when it was her turn. "I want to learn to d-defend myself so my f-friends don't always have to p-protect me." She swallowed hard and made herself look at Faith. "What k-kind of s-supernatural creatures do you hunt?"

Because there was a personal stake in this question, oh hell yes. And there was no way she was staying in a class taught by someone that might one day be hired by people to hunt down her and her friends.

Oh. There was more. Who dd she want to beat up? That answer was easy.

"There are s-some really bad p-people where I c-come from that hurt kids like me and my friends." She swallowed again. "I w-want to s-show them that we c-can fight back, too."

Jason had thought that Phys Ed would be enough fighting for his schedule, but apparently Bruce wanted him working out in as many different ways as possible. He didn't mind being here though because hello, hot teacher.

"I'm Jason Todd, and I'm here because... I need to work on my defensive skills as much as my offensive skills." At least, he figured that was why Bruce had signed him up. "And I'd love to beat the crap out of my guardian. In a good way," he added, once he realized how that sounded. "'Cause that'd mean I'm a better fighter than he is."

"I'm Dru Anderson. My dad was a hunter." If Faith was paying attention she might notice the subtle emphasis on the past tense and realize what it inferred. "I used to help him. We did a lot of training, but it's always good to know more. As for beating on someone," Dru said. "There's a vampire that needs to be taken out."

"Claudia Donovan," said Claudia. "I'm here 'cause, well . . . I guess the world can't get saved on physics alone? I mean, it mostly can, but --"

Claudia, honey, you're babbling. Faith might be just a little bit impressive. And intimidating.

"Uhhh, person who's ass I'd kick. There's this professor guy named Nielson who talked my brother into doing this experiment way too soon. I'd probably kick his butt." If she could ever find him.

Ellie had been here long enough to not even blink at the whole slayer of supernatural creatures thing. She was used to introductions, too. "I'm Ellie Bartowski. I'm here because I am not a fighter type and figured self-defense would be a good idea because of that."

She paused as she considered the last part. "I would like to beat up anyone who hurts my family."

Meaning Chuck, basically.
