Applied Dadaism, Wednesday, Period 2

Students had handwavily gotten notice to meet up in the Preserve behind the school for class today. When they arrived, they'd find Artie balanced seemingly precariously on a trampoline, eyes on his watch, counting down the seconds until class was due to start.

Artie was nothing but punctual when it came to being ridiculous.

When the appointed time arrived, Artie bounced down off the trampoline with a cheerful "Bazoom!" and posed triumphantly in front of the students!

"Welcome, students! I am Artie! The strongest man . . ." He bounced in place for a few moments, as though doing some sort of dance, then struck another heroic pose. ". . . In the world!" He stood up very straight. "And this is Applied Dadaism, the class where each of you will challenge your premisconceptives about proper behavior by challenging the rules of game play and so-called 'polite' society -- and most importantly, you will have fun!"

He looked over the students with a benign and mentorly smirk. "If you're not here for Applied Dadaism, stick around. You may find it to your liking."

He hopped a circle around the students then, looking jovially to the sky. "Here we will play games. We will ask questions. We will make other people ask questions, and perhaps even question why they're asking questions! And at the end of the class, you will each invent a game of your own to play for class."

He stopped in front of the students again, striking yet another pose. "But first! We must get to know each other. Tell us your name -- or nickname, or anything you want us to call you -- and give us an interesting, ridiculous, absurd, and perhaps entirely untrue fact about yourself. For instance! I have a long standing battle for dominance of the summer fields with a swarm of Africanized bees."

Once introductions were dispensed with, Artie stood proud in front of the students, his hands on his hips. "Let's play rock, paper, scissors. But remember, you need not play only rock, paper, or scissors. You can play whatever you think of! What beats what your partner throws? How do you make it with your hands? Have fun!"

Jonas...hoped that he could pick this game up quickly enough since he'd never played before. It didn't sound that difficult though.

Dandelion approached Jonas with a raised eyebrow and using her had made a hand gesture at him that looked like her hand was swimming around her.

"Jellyfish!" she called out.

Jonas...still didn't have a good indication what this game was about so he made he pointed one long finger and sort of twirled it.

"Fishing pole?"

Dandelion laughed and through her hand into the air making it look like jazz hands she had dancing hands. "Fairy dust!"

Jonas stared for a minute and then sort of mimicked the dancing hands. "I'm guessing fairy dust is a good thing? I don't know what it is."

"Well it makes you fly! That's a good thing, right?"

"I don't actually know, I've never flown before," he admitted. "I've seen planes and I know things can fly but I've never actually done it myself."

"Well sure," Dandelion said rolling her eyes. "If you want to do it the easy way."

"It's not really a matter of wanting, we just didn't have the technology and no one was allowed to venture Elsewhere," Jonas said, shrugging. "I would have wanted to if I'd known what flying was at the time."

Squall glared at his classmates, daring them to try being his partner.

Robin would take that dare. "Sweetums!" Sweetums could totally beat rock, paper, or scissors.

Bad enough that he had a girl roommate; now he was getting hit on by a monster?

"I'm not your sweetums," Squall answered bitchily.

"No no, that's my throw." Robin held out both arms like he was imitating something really big and fierce. "Sweetums! He's big and strong and can bend scissors, crush rocks, and tear paper!"

"That's a stupid name. Fine, then. I throw Quezacotl, and it zaps Sweetums with lightning."

"There's no need to insult my friends." Robin chastised him.
