Blending In, Wednesday, Period 6

Ziva had to admit, she was looking forward to teaching again far more than she'd expected to, so when the students arrived in the Danger Shop, they'd find her looking quite content, even if she was dressed in a very un-Zivalike fashion.

"Good afternoon," she said. "For those of you who are new to the school, my name is Ziva David. You may call me Ziva if you wish, or Ms. David if you insist on formality. Hopefully, all of you are in the right place and are here to learn about blending in when visiting different places and interacting with different cultures. We will be sticking to Earth cultures, because this is where I am from," and no, that never got less strange to have to say, "and while normally the first week is reserved for introductions, I would like to swim right in and get started - with something easy, and a little local."

Once Ziva was done playing with the Danger Shop controls, the students would find themselves in a side room at a large racetrack.

"The Kentucky Derby is a major event that takes place in the southern part of the United States," Ziva said. "Attendees come from all over the world to watch horses worth millions of dollars race around this track. It is the first race of three that take place every spring, so it is very important, because the winner of this race usually becomes the favorite to win the other two races as well. Like many events that take place in the South, there is a kind of dress code to follow," she added, motioning to her dress and the crazy hat. "We will sample some of the local cuisine while we get the introductions out of the way, and then we can watch the race. Once you've all changed into something more appropriate, of course."

A dress. Of course. At least by now she'd been in Fandom long enough that she knew how to fasten dresses without the help of a lady-in-waiting, because not knowing how had just been embarrassing.

Rosalind could not help but wonder if she'd really be so out of place in her suit.

As it was a class, however, she changed without complaint even if the hat did get the faintest expression of distaste before she settled it on her head. Sigh.

Ben hurriedly changed into his suit, smiling a lot at some of the hats the girls had to choose from.

...Right. Makita was never going to be able to pass as a fancy lady, the effect would be ruined the moment she opened her mouth.

So she grabbed a dress (http://www.edressme.com/ch6104.html) and matching hat (http://www.hatsinthebelfry.com/product/belfry-emily.html) that were more 'little sister' than 'socialite.'

Besides, the skirt of that dress was roomy enough to fit a weapon or two under.

Del's dress seemed to be a mixture of all the remaining dresses, and maybe some of the suits.

She was loving this class so far.

Claire didn't necessarily mind wearing dresses but she definitely wasn't into these dresses. They were almost as bad as some of the stuff Deadpool had made them wear in modeling.

But she found something tolerable in pink and yellow with a matching hat that was hideously huge.

Oh, a suit, George could do that. He was snickering a lot at the dresses th'lasses had to choose from though.

Medusalith was already wearing a dress, but she could see that it was a little more formal than these, so she exchanged it and donned a hat, even though she hated to restrain her hair like that.

Kyle had done the suit thing before, but it didn't get any easier each time he had to figure out a tie. In the end, he left it, but was suited up nonetheless.

James looked at what the other students had chosen, and picked out a dark suit and white shirt that looked the same as everyone else; the tie gave him some problems. Anyone looking at it would see a rather nautical-looking knot.

"Blysse Norwood," she introduced herself, fidgeting with the hat and trying to remember to not pull it off. "And Blind Seer," the large wolf by her side gave an approximation of a bow, lowering his forelegs and dipping his head down briefly. "Am not so sure how old I am, though Blind Seer is perhaps six? We growed up in mountains just outside Hawk Haven. And we sign up for this class because... both of us are liking visiting new places," she shrugged. Unfortunately her particular manner of speech (not to mention the giant-wolf thing) was going to make blending in more difficult should she ever be required to make conversation, but that was a bridge that'd be crossed when they came to it.

Mmm, pie. Ben thought it would be even better with ice cream.

"I'm Ben Skywalker," he said. "I'm a junior from Coruscant--different galaxy, if you don't know the name--and I'm a Jedi. We are supposed to blend into many different cultures. I thought this class would be useful."

"Makita, from Nokgorka. Which in this would, would be somewhat south of your Russian," she said around a mouthful of pie. "M' sixteen an' a Wolf, which means I need to be able to come and go, anywhere, anytime, without being noticed. Just blend into the background and do my job."

"I'm Delirium", said as she ate half her pie portion at once, the hat on her head menacing to fall at any moment.

"I'm older than you all together, ten times...and probably more." This pie was really good! "I'm from...um. Good question; I think I just appeared when it was needed, so there." They could have more pie, right?

"Blending in sounded fun~ But I don't see any blenders." She felt kinda tricked, but the pie was good!

Oooh, it was hard to go wrong with pecan pie as far as Claire was concerned.

"I'm Claire Bennet, I'm seventeen and I grew up in Texas but my family lives in Southern California now. I signed up for this class because there are some people after me and I think learning to blend in anywhere will be useful for me to hide from them."

Or help her bring them down. Whichever.

The pie was excellent. George was also wondering if he could manage to take one home.

"'M George Cooper, an' 'm 15," he said, still eyeing that pie. "'M from th'Lower City of Corus, an' tis always better not t'be noticed, y'know?"

Medusalith poked at the pie curiously for a bit, then, when she realized it was her turn, said, "My name is Medusalith Amaquelin. Some people call me Medusa. I am seventeen years old, and I come from Germany." Yes. Germany. Pay no mind to the completely not-German accent. "My community is very insular, and so I would like to learn how to fit in among h--among other people."

"When do they cook the turkey?"

Del felt it was a completely valid question. Specially when put in the right place.
