Maritime Safety, [Monday, Period Three]

Bond had *handwavily* informed his class to meet him at the docks, where he waited for them to arrive by a motorboat.

"Good morning," he greeted when they'd all arrived. "This is Maritime Safety, so if that's not the class you signed up for, you're in the wrong place. For those of you who haven't taken one of my classes before, I'm Professor Bond, and your TAs for this class are Kyle and Rose, I trust them implicitly and so should you." High praise that.

"The purpose of this class to teach you all something about how to handle yourself out on the open water," Bond explained. "But today we'll just be starting off with introductions and some basics of safety and boat handling. I want each of you to tell me and the rest of the class your names, if you can swim, what you already know about open water sailing, and something interesting about yourself. You start."

After the class had finished, he picked up a bright yellow and red vest, and continued. "Two things you should know. One, this is a personal floatation device, also known as a life jacket," he said, demonstrating the proper technique for donning one. "If you fall into the water, it will keep you afloat long enough for us to fish you out. We won't necessarily be using them every class, but we will today. Please put them on before we get in the boat."

He kept talking as they dressed in the vests. "Two, since you'll all actually get a chance to pilot the boat today, left is port, right is starboard." He held up the relevant hand for each. "The front or fore of a ship is the bow, and the rear or aft of one is the stern.Remember that, as I will be using that terminology. Now if you're all in your vests, into the boat."

Most frogs yeah. Working on the pontoon boats that toured the Everglades was a common job.

"Uh huh! Mostly small ones though. It's a lot of fun. I'm Robin by the way."

Ariel smiled, waving her hand again in her only way of saying hi, Robin. Then, she just sort of bounced a little, looking over at the boat, unable to believe that she was going to go on one and it was just too exciting!

"Can you swim?" he asked next. It wasn't a huge deal cause of the life jackets of course.

Ariel snorted. Could she swim? Please. She waved a dismissive little hand and gave the little frog an expression that made it clear that she could swim like a fish.

At least, she thought she could. She usually could, but that was back when she had a lower half covered in gills.

Robin giggled. "I'll take that as a yes then. I can't wait to steer the boat!"

Ariel's grin grew, taking on a slightly maniacal edge as she rubbed her hands together eagerly. Oh, yes. That boat wasn't going to know what hit it once Ariel was behind the wheel. Tiller. Whatever.

Maniacal grins didn't bother Robin. You didn't know maniacal till you've been around Crazy Harry. "That's one thing I never got a chance to do before, actually drive a boat."

Ariel put a hand to her chest. Me, too!, the gesture seemed to say, matched with her ever present grin. And then she giggled a little, soundless as it was, bending down to put her hand low to the ground and then moving it up like a booster for him, because he'll probably need one. She meant it kindly, in the same way she joked about Flouder being a little bit chubs.

Yeah he was wee. "Well there was a vest the right size for me, so I'm sure Mr. Bond will have something for me to stand on."

Smiling, Ariel nodded, and took a second to pat her own vest proudly. She then gave Robin a thumbs up, finding his to look very good on him.

But, then again, Ariel thought the jackets were the epitome of style right now, so...

Ariel positively preened, immediately going into model mode, striking some fierce poses that showed off just how fashionable she truly was in her puffy life jacket. She brought her arms up through her hair so she could toss it over her shoulders, and then she twirled, winding up almost losing her balance, but then recovering from it with a truly modelesque glance over her shoulder.

Was it weird that Robin found the almost losing her balance endearing and adding to her charm? He applauded, possibly developing a crush.

Giggling a little, Ariel bowed to her adoring fans. Thank you, thank you. Try the kelp; tip your waitress. Thank you!

Robin giggled again. Yep, he thought Ariel was pretty awesome.
