Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Hopefully things weren't so awkward before. Maybe things ended up well. Maybe, just maybe, you ended up meeting someone special.

Or you took your shirt off because Layla Miller convinced you it was destiny. But she's a damn dirty liar and well know it.

[Please wait for OCD is up! This is the SECOND post for general mingling. Use this post if your browser can't handle the comment load of the first mingling post. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here.]

Scully couldn't imagine any animal that huge as a pet. Or entirely tame. She'd no more call him a 'pet' than she would a tiger performing on-stage, and this wolf hadn't jumped through any hoops.

"Nice to meet you. Both," Scully added, still awkward, although smiling at what she thought was Blysse's joke. "If it's not too rude... how did he manage to ... or you manage to.." Great, her amazement was robbing her of her vocabulary. "Why is he here, instead of out in the wilds of Canada or Montana? And what species is he? Doesn't he find the island too small to be a tolerable habitat? I thought the range of wolves was upwards of twenty-five miles."

Oh, there were the words. Right.

"He is here because we run together," Firekeeper shrugged. "He is Royal Wolf, and there are rabbits enough and other meat to fill both our bellies." She was pretty sure she'd managed to answer all of Scully's questions there.

"Royal Wolf," Scully repeated, to give herself time to assimilate the rest of it. She frowned, quiet for a moment, watching Blind Seer, then tentatively said, "I've never heard of them before. Where are the two of you from?"

Far, far off, Scully could sense the tectonic plates of reality shifting under her feet. Stubbornly, she ignored the feeling of being off-balance, and focused on what she could see. A big wolf. And a girl.

"I do not think this land have Royal Beasts," she explained. "We growed up in the mountains near a kingdom named Hawk Haven."

Scully wasn't sure if Blysse meant that the way Ino had, with her talk of different worlds and planets; or if she was misunderstanding the girl because English was clearly not her first language. Hawk Haven could be a translation of somewhere she'd recognize... or not.

"And now you're here, going to school." A situation that was mildly incredible, but not one Scully could discuss in her own case, so... "I'm surprised Blind Seer was allowed on the island." She glanced over at him again, and had to smile. "No matter how amazing he is."

"Nobody say he cannot go anywhere," Firekeeper had to smirk at that one. People, even those in authority, rarely had the nerve to do so. Though in all likelihood, the Ones in charge of Fandom probably would have, had they actually seen his presence as a problem.

Where does an 800-pound gorilla sit? Or a 200-pound wolf? Right.

"I'd like to see that if it ever happened." Scully shook her head, calm enough to nibble on her food again now, and move a little closer to study Blind Seer. Blue eyes. Watching her calmly. Interesting. "He seems very intelligent, too. I'll be sure not to make any moves he'd interpret as aggressive." She paused. "I'd offer food, in order to make friends, but that's probably a bad idea too, isn't it."

"He is just as smart as you or I," Firekeeper corrected quickly. Blind Seer's tail twitched. "Though he would go further, and say he is smarter," she shrugged. "A wolf would be unwise to turn down food," she admitted.

Scully's look said uhhhhhh... yeah but aloud, all she said was, "Then I guess he's welcome to some salami?" And suited the action to the word, holding out a few on her hand, holding her breath and thinking, if he eats the fingers too, Mulder will laugh.

She was lucky both of them were fairly zen about skepticism by this point. Plus, they both realized that such disbelief could perhaps be a tactical advantage some day, so didn't press the matter any further.

Blind Seer snapped up the salami without so much as grazing a tooth on Scully's hand, and then tilted his head at her, an expression meant to convey a certain amount of smugness on his part.

Which surprised a real laugh out of Scully, and then she automatically reached to scratch behind his ears, freezing when she realized what she was doing again. Then unfreezing to just go with it.

"It's been interesting meeting you both," she said, nodding to Blysse. "And I suppose I'll see you around."
