Hopefully things weren't so awkward before. Maybe things ended up well. Maybe, just maybe, you ended up meeting someone special.

Or you took your shirt off because Layla Miller convinced you it was destiny. But she's a damn dirty liar and well know it.

...awkward.

Had a few beers when writing this. Not gonna lie.

Alex still had his shirt (he wasn't stripping just for tradition) and he'd settled on his back on the grass, one hand across his stomach so he could get some sun.

It was socializing...sort of. It worked for him.

It was warmer than Bod was used to and he kept wondering if he was going to burn but he was still out there, idly drinking from a water bottle and taking in the crowd in front of him quietly.

Still buzzing from the changes of the day, Jonas had taken to sitting against a tree and relaxing as the picnic progressed. He felt like he needed a bit of a rest.

Extreme excitement plus your first day being a human plus some totally effective flirt sessions plus a complete explore-human-food binge fest lead to an Ariel feeling a little bit tired and a little bit sick to her stomach. So she was just going to...sit down for a while. Underneath a tree (she reveled in the new word), in the shade. And just relax.

She thought, with the day she was having, it would have been a good idea to go up to her room, but she just couldn't. She didn't want to miss a thing!

...especially not the shirtlessness. No complaints about the view from this corner of the picnic, no sir!

Griff waited till a little later in the day to show up for his required time staring at new kids and wondering if any of them really knew what they were getting themselves into.

He had coffee (in a cup from the Perk, not the picnic) and leaned up against a tree, almost smiling, but not quite.

Well, she hadn't used the destiny line on him, but Chuck had lost his shirt somewhere along the way because of Layla. He'd also been propositioned and possibly broken another girl's brain with technology. It was almost more surreal than the weird this place normally threw at them.

Um... Quite a start to the summer?

"They gave me a little sibling," Alex said, coming over to stand near Griff.

Griff snorted, "Oh yes, you'll be fantastic at that!" Really, he'd needed that laugh.

"Hey, don't judge me just yet!" Alex said, scowling. "I could be awesome at it. People do love, Griff."

No, they didn't.

"Aw, Griff. Not stripping for the greater good?" Well, if he was going to go and stand on the borders at events like this, he was bound to end up standing near enough to Effy that eventually that she'd just have to wander closer to tease him.

"Who's the poor kid you're taking under your wing now?" Griff wondered. "I might need to offer my condolences."

"His name's Christian," Alex said, not able to find him in the crowd. "British kid. Apparently, I'm all about you English people."

"You know, I did that once and it was seriously cold after a while," Griff replied. "Besides, my tan's not exactly up to par." And while he was well-muscled, the kid was tiny and needed not to be compared to the beefcakes around, thanks. "Shouldn't you be half naked?"

"Why should I be half naked any more than you should?" Effy wondered, moving to lean up beside him. Her tan wasn't any better than his, and this island felt a little like a sauna today, so complaining of the cold was a shit excuse.

"You mock his accent yet?" Griff wondered, grinning a little.

"Hey, I like the accent," Alex said and that was almost true. "Especially if it's used for dirty talk but I really only do that with one person. Sorry to disappoint, buddy."

"Seems the fair question to ask," Griff shrugged. "You get saddled with a new kid yet?" So far, it was like the administration realized he would ruin a new kid in five minutes.

Griff gagged, wishing he could die just then. "Remind me never ever to talk dirty to you."

Effy shook her head, digging a hand into her shirt for her cigarettes and offering the pack towards him first. So polite.

"No sibling, no roommate..." Yep, that's some good news for you right there, Griff! "Probably a wise move on their part." Not exactly the best influence ever.

"If you need a reminder about that, I might actually be flattered," he teased because it was fun.

"From the demon spawn? I can only fear the possibilities," Griff sighed, making faces at his roommate.

Yes fine, he took a cigarette. Mainly because he was starting to hope it bothered people, not because he actually was capable of smoking properly.

"You've got a whole room to yourself? Can I sell you my roommate? He's cheap."

"Oh, why did you bring that poorly named kid up?" Alex asked, making a face. "What the fuck were we on in that universe?"
