Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

Hopefully things weren't so awkward before. Maybe things ended up well. Maybe, just maybe, you ended up meeting someone special.

Or you took your shirt off because Layla Miller convinced you it was destiny. But she's a damn dirty liar and well know it.

As if Christian could resist that hair. It was calling to him. "I suppose you've heard this before," he began, "but you have very, very beautiful hair."

"Thank you," Medusalith said in gracious acceptance of the compliment. "It is my best feature." Well, it was. It was just that the rest of her was fairly spectacular as well. "My name is Medusalith Amaquelin. I'm new."

"I'm Christian, also new," Christian said. he'd agree with the 'spectacular' assessment, actually. "I've never heard the name Medusalith. Where are you from?"

"Germany," Medusalith lied. "It's in Europe," she added helpfully, then, "I suppose you could call me Medusa, if you like. Some people do."

"I may just do that, Medusa," Christian said, deciding not to comment on the mythological namesake. Presumably she knew about that. "Have you ever been to Paris? I want to go there someday."

That was ... about the only use he had for the continent of Europe, yes.

Except she had no clue, and would be highly amused by the appropriateness when she found out. "Should I have been?" she asked, just a little nervous as to the answer. Was Paris in Germany? She needed to check the map again.

"Perhaps not. It's not so very close," Christian acknowledged. "I just always have to ask when I meet someone from Europe. It's foolish, perhaps, when I've hardly been out of Britain before the trip here."

"Oh, well, we're from a very...insular community." Yes. Insular. "So I haven't traveled much." Then she realized she'd used the plural and added, so he wouldn't think she was being a snob and using the royal 'we'--distaff-line princesses didn't get to do that, after all-- "I'm here with my cousin. We're both new."

"My father is just a cheap bastard," Christian grumbled, then looked through the crowd to see if he could spot anyone who looked like Medusa. "Which one is your cousin?"

Medusalith looked around until she found Blackagar, then pointed him out. "That dark-haired boy there is Blackagar. So you know, he can't speak."

Christian glanced to him. "I met a girl earlier who couldn't talk -- well, couldn't or didn't, I didn't ask. Ariel, that redhead by the tree. I can't imagine it."

His gift was his song, people.

"Blackagar has been unable to speak since birth," Medusalith said. "I'm used to it, and so is he." Even if she did sometimes wonder what it would be like to be able to hear his voice without, you know, dying.

"Silence speaks a thousand words," Christian answered absently. "I wasn't criticizing it, I promise."
