The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of moddable snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

That earned her a grin. "Let me guess. He failed to realize that the things he taught you to use against other males could also be used against him?"

Cassidy grinned and nodded. "That is exactly what happened." Cassidy was smiling, but her voice turned a little more serious. "Karla, is it the normal to give a female a male roommate here?"

"It happens a lot, yeah," Karla said, nodding. "I was lucky, but I know plenty of people who ended up with males. But every pairing I know of worked out!" she added hastily. "Nothing untoward. And we'll be moving to the cabins soon, so you'll get a whole new roommate then. Who might be female."

On a distaff thread she sent, *Other than a few of my friends, no one knows about what happens the first three days of our moontime. And there are secure rooms up on the sixth floor you can lock yourself in during that time, if you're uncomfortable in your assigned room.*

Hmmm...maybe she should restart her monthly slumber parties. It might help ease Cassidy in.

"I met my roommate and he does seem really nice and kind. It was just a bit of a shock to find out he was male," she admitted.

*It was the one worry my brother had about me going away to school. He was worried about me not being safe during those days.*

Karla wasn't about to volunteer her males--for one thing, Ben would probably pitch a fit--but she could offer up some reassurance, at least.

"There's no one here who would harm you," she promised. "And plenty of people who'd be willing to stand in front of you if someone tried. Also, plenty of females around here who know how to gut a male four different ways who'll be happy to keep an eye on you while you settle in. Including me," she said with a smile. "Your brother can rest easy on that account."

It never would have occurred to Cassidy that a Sister would offer her own males for protection. Those males needed to focus on their Queen, after all.

Her eyes widened a bit and then she grinned. "So the females here can be just as dangerous as the males back home? That sounds very entertaining. Clayton will be jealous that I came and he didn't." She nodded and then smiled at Karla again. "I would very much appreciate that, Karla."
