Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of moddable snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

So... yeah.

Enjoy!

"They do not happen often," Raven said, "but there are times when the violence becomes very bad. The island seems to be a magnet for invasions sometimes. Not long ago there were giant lizards and other strange creatures causing a great deal of trouble, which resulted in a fight to defeat the one responsible."

Ah, bad guys to take out. That was definitely what Jason wanted to hear. "Giant lizards are a little outside of my experience, but we're all here to learn, right?"

"I am a pacifist, so all fights are outside of my experience," Raven said. "There are many here who do not fight because they do not wish to or do not know how to, but there are just as many who are able to come to the defense of the island. I am part of the Magic Reserves, but there is also a group for those who fight that you may be interested in seeking out. I believe it is Zack whom you will want to speak to about that."

"Okay, I'll keep an eye out for that," Jason said, tilting his head at her a little before he could stop himself. "You're a pacifist? Like, you don't fight at all?"

"Violence sickens me," Raven said quietly, "but I have learned that it is sometimes necessary to fight for what you believe in. I do not think I am capable of harming another person, however" -- that was not quite the truth, she knew she could easily hurt others, she just didn't want to -- "though I am hoping to at least learn how to defend myself without truly causing harm. I know that sounds foolish to some, but it is the way I was raised."

"Hey, if you have to defend yourself, it's better if the other guy ends up getting hurt than you," Jason said. "Fighting for your own safety totally doesn't count."

"Those of Azarath believe all life is sacred," Raven said. "They will not raise a hand to harm another, even in self defense. I no longer follow their path as I once did, but it is difficult to change my way of thinking so quickly." She gave Jason a small smile. "This place has put many of my beliefs to the test."

"But do you still like it here? I can't seem to find anyone who doesn't want to be here," Jason said. He was starting to wonder if he should stay away from the water or something.

"I love it here," Raven said, her smile growing. "I could never go home again. I have learned so much and made so many friends. There are things that I wish had not happened, but the rest has been wondrous."
