Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of moddable snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

So... yeah.

Enjoy!

"They're like vermin," she confided. "Just keep an eye out, their bite makes you hallucinate. They're mostly harmless, just embarrassing. See, that wasn't so bad."

Hiccup wasn't so sure about that, because they sounded way worse than trolls, but he nodded. "Okay, so I'm going to ask you another question, and this one might sound a bit weird." Or not. So far no one else had been thrown by it, but you never knew. "But how do you feel about dragons?"

"Oooooh." Her eyes went wide. "I met a girl who had a dragon, one time! It was all small and cute. But aside from that my experience is limited to stories. Why? Do y'all have dragons where you're from?"

Hiccup perked up, suddenly very happy at the news that there had been dragons here before. "Yes, yes we do. Lots of dragons in fact. They're kind of the village pets." Which was far better than the village pests they once were. "So, if there were a dragon here, not so much on the small side, that would be okay?"

"So long as you're not keeping it in the dorms," she said, kind of gleeful and awed, yeah. "I mean, and only that'd be a problem 'cause you said it's big. You have a dragon as a pet? God, and I thought my cat was pretty cool."

Okay, this whole 'I have a dragon thing please don't kill it' was going so well, Hiccup was waiting for the other shoe to drop.

"Yeah, I do," he said with a smile. "His name's Toothless, and, well, he's not really a pet, more...a friend. He's how I got here," he explained. "But I've never actually seen a cat before, only drawings in books, so I think you having one is pretty cool."

"Awww, what a sweet name for a dragon!" Sookie said, delighted. "Does he fly? Is that how you got here? And I will totally introduce you to Tina if you show me Toothless sometime, though I'm pretty sure cats aren't as interesting."

"He's the fastest dragon around," Hiccup said proudly. "We flew here from Berk this morning. Well, not all the way, we came part of the way through a portal-type-thing. But yes, flying is how we got here. And you can definitely meet him, anytime you want."
