Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of moddable snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

So... yeah.

Enjoy!

Roy was here with his shirt off (yes, this meant the track marks were plainly visible, but he kind of figured shame was for people who didn't have his shoulders), ready to greet the new kids and flirt with the girls.

Another familiar face. At least this one wasn't dead back home, though he wasn't a teenager, either. "This shirtless thing is a real tradition?" Tim asked, approaching Roy. "I thought that girl was just trying to mess with the new kid."

"Yeah, apparently," Roy said. "Or so I've been told, anyway, I got here in January so I was not taking my shirt off, man. Hey." He offered his bow-calloused hand and said, "Roy Harper."

"Tim Drake," Tim said, shaking his hand. He noted the track marks, but they weren't fresh, so no surprises there. "From Gotham City. How about you?"

"Star City," Roy said. "Heads up if you haven't figured it out yet, some people here are from, like, other universes that don't have Gotham or Superman or anything. It's really weird." A pause, then he thought about the other thing. "Oh, and you might meet teenage versions of people you know or from, like, the tabloids are whatever."

"'Teenage versions'? That'd be weird," Tim said with a smile. And then, "... wait, what do you mean about the tabloids? Someone famous is here?" He had a bad feeling about this.

"Well, yeah," Roy said. "Bruce Wayne? He's a lot less of an airhead as a teenager, it's weird." He missed Dinah, with whom he could bounce up and down and freak out about this situation. "But, like, this woman I know at home--she dated my foster dad--there was a teenage version of her from some wacky universe here when I got here, but she just graduated and left on some backpacking thing. It breaks your brain at first, but then you get used to it." He paused. "And then something else comes along and your brain hurts again."

Yeah, Tim was getting a sense of how that felt. "Bruce Wayne. Is a teenager. Here." He ran a hand through his hair. "Man."
exspeedydotcom: (thinking about it)

"Yep. I guess he's all grown up and dating showgirls where you're from?"

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah!" At least part of his relationship with the Wayne family was public, so Tim let himself spazz a little bit. "He's my neighbor! His son takes me to baseball games sometimes!"
exspeedydotcom: (say what now?)

[personal profile] exspeedydotcom 2010-05-08 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Dick?" Roy asked. "You're friend with Dick? What did you say your name was again? Tim?" It wasn't ringing a bell. "Dick's my best friend. He's never mentioned you," he said kind of accusingly.

Of course, Roy hadn't spoken to him in six months and had in fact been avoiding him like the plague, so this might also be his bad.

"You're that Roy?" Tim asked, as if just making a connection. "He's mentioned you, but I thought you were a lot older. Like Dick's age."
exspeedydotcom: (say what now?)

[personal profile] exspeedydotcom 2010-05-08 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"What are you, like a fre--wait, how much older?" This was a new twist and Roy wasn't sure he liked it.

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Dick's twenty-four," Tim said. "And I'm a sophomore. I'll be fifteen in July."
exspeedydotcom: (how is that even possible?)

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[personal profile] exspeedydotcom 2010-05-08 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Dick: twenty-four. That would make Roy also twenty-four. "That's insane. Huh. Well, hey, man, welcome to Crazytown."

"Thanks," Tim said dryly. "Yeah, I figured this place was weird when I met the vice-principal."

"Oh, yeah, Deadpool," Roy said. And he didn't even look like Deathstroke to Roy, because Deathstroke didn't exist yet, la. "You get used to--well, no, that's a lie. You don't get used to him. Pretty sure he's actually insane."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
He did look kind of like Deathstroke to Tim, but the color scheme was all wrong.

"That's what I figured! I was just trying to talk to him, you know, figure out if he was dangerous and he got offended and gave me detention." Tim folded his arms over his chest and frowned. "The other teacher just said he's not actively homicidal."
exspeedydotcom: (o_-)

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[personal profile] exspeedydotcom 2010-05-08 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, no, I'm pretty sure he's dangerous," Roy said. "But not--well, like you said, not actively, so," he shrugged. "Tough luck about the detention, though, man."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Tim shrugged, though he was still sulking a little. "It's just a detention. I'll survive."
exspeedydotcom: (neutral headtilt thinky)

[personal profile] exspeedydotcom 2010-05-08 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"True," Roy agreed. "I mean, it could be worse, at least it wasn't a gremlin or something, but first thing like that, that's got to suck."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] boywonder03.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"How bad are the gremlins?" Tim asked.

"Okay, so you know how normally you might have cockroaches? Think bigger, green, at least semi-intelligent, and their bite is hallucinogenic. I'm told it's really funny for the people the gremlin didn't bite."

Tim considered this. "Any way to defend against them?"

Constant vigilance! "So far, keeping my room clean so they have nowhere to hide and wearing sturdy boots has worked for me."
