Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of moddable snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

So... yeah.

Enjoy!

Hugs were made of win. And Death. And Delirium.

"Student. Junior, um, I think. You are pretty as always." The mention of Barnabas made her eyes go down for a moment. "" Well, she hoped Barnabas could find her.

"He'll find you," Didi told her sister sympathetically. "You found me, right?"

She was genuinely surprised at the statement her sister had enrolled. "And I'm a senior." So she still outranked Del, ha. "I never would have thought classes would be your thing. You sure it's what you really want?"

This was code for 'are you going to get bored and start turning your teachers into butterflies?'. ... not that Didi wouldn't have wanted front-row seats, if that was what would happen.

Yes, Barnabas was the bestest dog ever. And Angelo was second best.

There was some confused blinking. "Classes?" She had come here to find Didi, but apparently there were rooms and teachers and stuff she hadn't thought about. "Well...I'll, um, don't know? I mean, maybe, if the classes aren't boring boring boring maybe?"

But it didn't mean she wasn't going to wreck some havoc here and there.

"I think you can probably find some classes here that aren't boring boring boring." She'd hope so, anyhow. If Del had to go to a high school -- and Didi wasn't about to try to stand in the way of an agent of chaos billions of years old, even one she happened to be related to -- Fandom was probably the best one.

Another thought occurred to her, though she knew the answer almost before she asked it. "You aren't stuck as a human like me, are you?"

Little sister nodded energetically; this place seemed like the perfect one to learn something. Or anything. Or you know, hang out.

Before she answered, Del's hair shifted on a rainbow of colors. "Eh, nope? I'm still mememe." She raised a hand at Didi, trying to touch her face. "...Human?"

"... yeah." Didi didn't sound either pleased or displeased. "This is a really, really, really extended version of my one-day-a-century gig."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
It sure was. "Do you, um, need something?" Because humans were, well, needy. "Water?" She finally gave Didi's nose a soft poke, marveling herself with her now mortal sister.

"Not right now," Didi said, reaching out a hand to ruffle that multicolored hair. "You're sweet, Del. I'm fine."

Delirium closed her eyes at the ruffling. It was a good one. "When you need something, um, tell me?" Her siblings always did things for her, so if she could be useful, you bet she will try.

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

Didi hesitated, but: "Thanks."

It couldn't hurt to have someone who had the powers she was missing at the moment on her side. Not that Jono wouldn't help, but ... Jono wasn't family, exactly. Not like Del was.

"And if you get into trouble here, or there's something you don't understand ... tell me, okay?"

Delirium nodded several times. A lot of times. "Yesyesyes! Family helps, um, each otheranddoeshavealittlesiblingtoo????"

"Jake," Didi said, pointing out the very tall shirtless boy -- "and Lindsay. They're both nice. Lindsay just got here, so she's not convinced I'm not nuts."

She ran a hand through her hair, adding, "If you mean at the school. Otherwise ... just the same five as always. Who'd you get for a new big sibling?"

[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Behold! A shirtless dude. "You are notnuts; I am. I think. Most of the time."

"Emma Frossssst; she is, um, different."

Didi snorted. "She doesn't like me much. But I don't think she likes most people."

[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Something in her head goes out, like, um, poking around." She was going to add that it tickled her, but maybe Didi didn't need to know that. It was hard not to go for the tangent while speaking but she was trying.

"I hope she, um, likes me. Alittleperhaps? Just a, um, little bit." If not, she would have another scary sibling, boo-hoo.

"She's psychic," Didi confirmed. "I don't think she can get much from us but ..."

She trailed off, registering her sister's concern. Emma wasn't scary the way Dream was, just arrogant and bitchy in a way Didi didn't especially care for. "I'm sure she likes you just fine! And if she doesn't, I'll take care of it. She's pretty close with my boyfriend."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
So she was a mind reader. "It, eh, hurt her. "

And- what what what what?

"Boy, um, friend?" She was crazy, but she was sure that she had certainly heard that.

"Her fault for looking," but Didi's mind was somewhere else. Her emotions were a mix of defiance, pride, and the sheer happiness she got from thinking about Jono. "His name is Jonothon. Jono. You ... you'll like him. He met a different you, visiting me, and he adored her."

A pause. "I know it's a bad idea, but we both know what we're in for, and I'm human, and -- I really, really like him."

Funny thing, how it almost sounded like she was asking permission.

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Well yeah, it was totally her fault, but that didn't seem to matter much at the moment. Delirium wasn't too good at playing concern, leave alone responsible, but she was caring enough for Didi to make a face at her statement.

"Jono..." Well, she said he had met another her, and that she would like him. Hm, did that meant he was crazy? Didi couldn't possibly go on dates and do things you do with a boyfriend if he was on of her people. But she was her older sister...but...but...

"But...badthingshappen. Bad.Things."

"I know. I know the rules."

Didi couldn't justify dating a mortal. Not with anything except wanting and weak excuses. If this were one of the others, she might have gone for a tart reminder about how the rule was mostly to protect women from Morpheus, and Del from ... well, anyone. But she couldn't say that to her youngest sister, so she tried to just put on her best not-backing-down expression.

"Can you trust that I won't let anything bad happen?"

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"The Rules." Capital R and everything.

She was asking for trust. She could do that, right? It wasn't as if Dream and the others needed to get to know about this, right? And probably there were a lot of other Didis of other universes that didn't have a Jono boyfriend. Hm, alright then.

"I trust you...can I meet him? I break him. Really. Nice. Please?"

[personal profile] living_endless 2010-05-10 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes!" Didi was incredibly relieved. "Absolutely, you can meet him. He works in the record shop Tuesdays, want to take a little trip? You can see my job then too."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] mania-endless.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
And more emphatic nodding. "Yesyesyes, a trip would be nice." And she get to see where her sister worked, which sounded like a big deal since she wasn't working at being Death at the moment, and also to see this Jono person boyfriend Didi cared about.

"It'll be amazing," Didi promised, and, impulsively, offered another hug. "Thank you."
