Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of ~~moddable~~ snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

So... yeah.

"Maaaybe." Didi swiped a carrot stick from his plate. "Her name's Lindsay. She seems okay. Army jacket, all of that. Did I get a grand-sibling from you?"

He laughed and shook his head, not arguing the food stealing. See, he was nice. "No, I'll just have to compensate with the regular brain breaking. Hey, did I get a nephew while I was gone?"

"If you did, it wasn't from me," Didi told him, then gave him a speculative look.

"Where did you go, anyhow?"

"Nowhere really," he said, making a face. "I just couldn't turn back somehow so I was stuck in the preserve for a couple of weeks."

"Ew," came Didi's succinct commentary. "Things so shouldn't work that way. I'm glad to see you all ... you-shaped, again."

"Yeah, especially as I wasn't pissed," he paused. "At first. It got annoying after a bit. I'm glad to be me-shaped too. And sad I missed out on mocking other people."

"You missed the chance to see me at age four," Didi informed him. "I don't know how I was four, but it happened. I was kinda on a permanent sugar high."

"You didn't have to be a cub or anything while everybody else was a kid?"

Jacob laughed and shook his head. "No, I was just me, but Blysse and Blind Seer were cubs when they visited so I at least got to see that."

"That has to have been the cutest ever," Didi announced. "Did you turn back in time to sign up for classes and everything? I was out of town all last week."

"Yeah, I've been back for two weeks now," he wrinkled his nose. "Sorry, I should have come bug you sooner. Maybe your new little sister will be better at it."

"I've been really terrible about being social," Didi said. "And besides, I didn't come bug you, either. We're even."

"Seriously? Three weeks and I wasn't missed?" he held his hand over his heart, faking being hurt. The shine in his eyes was enough to tell her he was joking. "I'm wounded."

"I noticed you weren't around, I just ... lost track of time," Didi said, eyes sparkling. "Don't make me grovel at your feet, Jake. I feel short enough next to you."

"Awwwww, I'd not make you grovel," he pretended to consider it. "We could just go grab some ice cream later. Or something else. Just hang."

Didi considered her schedule and offered, "I'm free for ice cream Monday if you are."

"Sure, got nothing else to do but sit and pout over your new sibling," he said. "It'll make me less jealous." Also, he was a dork.

"Don't pine your life away," Didi advised, and went to give him an impulsive hug. "It was good to catch up. Seriously."

"Sure thing," he hugged her back, a bit too tight perhaps. "I'll see you Monday and you can complain about your siblings."
