The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of moddable snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

"Uh huh. His name's Jason, if you believe it," she giggled. "Not used to being the big sister to one of those. Poor thing's a little bewildered, I think -- he's from the 80s. What's yours like?"

"Squall," he nodded. "He makes Scott Summers seem like a positively cheerful chatterbox by comparison."

"Aww, poor guy. Maybe he's just shy," Sookie suggested like the naive little thing she was. "It's kinda intimidating, your first day here."

"I guess," though Bobby wasn't really convinced of that. "And, oh! I met someone else who knows me."

She raised an eyebrow. "Do you know them?"

"Nope," Bobby admitted. "Jean mentioned her during one of those 'comparing our realities' conversations, but if there's a her in my reality, we haven't met."

"That's weird," Sookie said completely seriously. "That's like, really bizarre. Is she from Jean's reality?"

"I thiiiiink so?" Bobby said. "She's friends with Kurt, and I know the Kurt I met back in my reality doesn't know her, so. Maybe."

"But she knows you," she repeated, "so there's a you in her timeline. Isn't the you in Jean's world, like, twelve?" She paused, and sighed. "This stuff is way harder than it has any business being."

And then there was the fact that Jono was from the 90s but knew him as an adult, as did Steve and Cable (who was Scott's as yet unborn son). Oh Marvel.

"You totally got off lucky with the whole younger-older-brother thing," Bobby said with a nod.

"I'm just waiting for, y'know, twenty-five year-old Lafayette who has a three year-old Sookie at home," she said thoughtfully. "Despite the fact that he's only a year or so older than me."

"Oh, see, now that you've said it it'll probably happen," Bobby said with a smirk, gently tossing a grape at Sookie. Because he was apparently five sometimes.

Sookie just let the grape bounce off her, eyeing him. "Your maturity astounds me at times," she said primly before picking up a Hershey's Kiss off her own plate and tossing it right at him.

Well, lucky (?) for Sookie, she was dating the king of bad jokes. So, yeah, he totally cracked up at that. "So you did," he observed. "Should I return the favor?"

"Yes," she said resolutely, nodding. "Yes, you absolutely should. It's only polite."

And just to prove that whole fan of bad jokes thing, Bobby reached for Sookie's hand... and then took a Kiss from his own plate and closed her fingers around it. "One Kiss, just for you."

"Brat," was the affectionate reply to that as she mock-glared at him.

"But one of your favorite brats, right?" Bobby checked, batting his eyelashes at her.

"Eh. Probably in the top twenty," she decided, tapping her chin thoughtfully. She was clearly teasing, yes.

"Huh," Bobby tapped his chin thoughtfully. "And yet you're dating me, so obviously I'm doing something right... either that, or you settled for me. My ego prefers the former."

"I mean, there's always possibility for promotion to top five and even number one," she added helpfully. "You really just need to persevere. Besides, your brattiness and ranking thereof oddly enough has little bearing on your being my boyfriend, so no need to worry about anyone settling."
