Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of moddable snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

So... yeah.

Enjoy!

Jono might have missed most of the finer nuances there were to that headtilt, but at least he caught the basic gist of what the boy was trying to get across, here.

//Around here,// he offered, //'weird' is a word that we mostly reserve for the weather. People... generally get used to other people bein' different. If they didn't, I would have left months back.//

After all, he could count the number of burning, bandaged mutant telepaths around here on one finger.

So that was that smell. Good to know, good to know.

Blackagar waved over toward the rest of the people, looking them over. None of them really seemed to stand out like back home. How could anyone tell the difference?
furnaceface: (Told you so)

Jono glanced out toward the crowd, and then shrugged.

//Th'different ones might not all stand out at a glance, but it's easy enough to get a feel for who they are, after a bit.// A pause. Jono offered him something that could almost have been a smirk, if not for the fact that he was sorely lacking in the ability to actually do so. //They're generally th'ones who look more worried. Or who like sittin' around the edges.//

Blackagar shot him a look out of the corner of his eye. No response to that beyond a serene little smile.

Aww, he was already working on that silent leader who doesn't let anything disturb him.
furnaceface: (Very disappointed in you)

It was actually kind of adorable, in one of those eerily silent ways.

//Either way, mate, welcome to Fandom. Don't let th'gremlins bite you in the arse on yer way in, and you'll do fine, here.//

...gremlins? What was that? Were they the genetic lessers who toiled beneath the island to make sure everything ran properly?

//More like th'freakish green things with hallucinogenic spit that scurry about between walls and under beds,// Jono clarified. //Harmless, and annoying.//

An evening spent thinking that he was a Viking with Alice had more or less cemented that fact in his mind.

//I could write a list of all th'bloody barmy things that go on around here, but I imagine I won't be the only one tryin' to warn yer about it all. If you ever do have any questions, though, just... wave a hand at me expressively. Or something.//

Well then. That was very different indeed. And a bit concerning. He would need to tell Medusa about these creatures before she encountered them.

Not that she couldn't defend herself with the hair, but... still.

Blackagar nodded, smiling wide and genuine for a moment at him in thanks.
furnaceface: (Told you so)

And Jono nodded back, attempting another something-like-a-smile in turn.

//You'll do fine here, mate. People usually do.//

Just as long as no one questioned the 'Germany' thing...

Blackagar hesitated for a moment, as if unsure this was the proper custom. Then offered his hand for a shake. He saw it at the airport, you know.

...and he wasn't about to start hugging people like others did there.
furnaceface: (Serious)

Hey, so long as he didn't have to actually speak German, he was good to go, right? Being unable to talk gave him a bit of an out, there.

Jono nodded, and accepted the boy's hand, giving it a firm shake. See, he was figuring this sort of thing out already!
