Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of ~~moddable~~ snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

So... yeah.

"Hey," Sam said casually. When you reached his height, you got used to some staring. "Are you having fun yet?"

"Yeah, sorta," Lindsay replied. Mostly she was still kinda wary and nervous. "I'm enjoying the free food?"

"The food is really good at these things. I think they like to make sure all the new people feel properly welcomed. I'm Sam, by the way," he said.

Sam. Of course. Another reminder of home. "I'm Lindsay. It's, uh, nice to meet you. And yeah, there are some good pastries over there."

Could she sound any more idiotic?

"There's a lot of good food on the island, once you go past school grounds," Sam said, not minding how she sounded at all. "So, did you choose to come here, or did you get sent here? It seems like most people fall into one of those two categories."

"I was sent here," Lindsay said, feeling a bit sheepish all of sudden. "My parents thought it would be good for me."

"It can be. This is a really good school," Sam said. "Of course, I just graduated, so I'm kind of biased."

"How long did you go here?" Lindsay asked curiously.

"All four years, including summers. It's kind of my home," Sam said. "The principal's my stepmom. I guess that makes me more than kind of biased, huh?"

"And it looks like you survived," Lindsay said. "So I'm guessing the principal is cool then?"

Anyone had to be cooler than the principal at McKinley.

"Very cool. She's kind of a badass," Sam said proudly. "So are a lot of people. The whole school is pretty cool, to be honest. Did you get all of the warnings from your sibling?"

"You mean about magic and aliens and rain of food?" Lindsay asked. "Yeah, I got that warning."

She still was not sure what to believe.

"Good. Then you should be about as prepared as you can be," Sam said. "It sounds crazy, I know, but a lot of it is fun crazy. Most of the time."

"It does sound crazy, but a lot of people seem to believe it." They couldn't all be crazy. Right?

"People who have been here long enough to remember getting turned into little kids for a weekend believe it," Sam replied.

"I have a feeling this is going to be an interesting summer." That was really the only reaction Lindsay had to that.

"I'm sure it will be. I just hope it's a fun interesting," Sam said. "Everyone's first few months here should be fun."
