Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of ~~moddable~~ snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

So... yeah.

"Why not?" Triela shrugged. She shifted a chair slightly and sat down in it. Her posture was relaxed but ready to move at a moment's notice.

"Well, there are advantages to taking too much damage, too," she added, examining her gloved hand thoughtfully.

Colour her intrigued. "Oh?"

"Well, if you're going to rebuild someone, you might as well make them faster, stronger, and more durable, right?" And Triela was all of those.

"I wouldn't want to be an experiment," she said neutrally. That was a bit too close to thinking about Nibelheim and... "Are you faster, stronger, and more durable?"

So was SOLDIER. Rosalind would still rather be a Turk.

"Turns out I am," Triela snorted. "And sometimes it's rebuild or bury, so..."

"So." That was clear enough.

...

... Rosalind wasn't very good at this... social thing. "You don't age?"

Triela hadn't been especially good at it when she'd first arrived either.

"No. Don't tend to live especially long, either, but five or six extra years is better than nothing, right?"

"Better than nothing," she echoed. "I think so."

Life was worth living.

"Anyway, glad you didn't need to be an experiment," Triela grinned. "Seems to work out better for most people that way."

That got a faint smile out of her. "Even if they have to deal with their frail human flesh."

"Well, even frail human flesh can be pretty effective with the right tools and training," Triela smirked. Not as good as a cyborg, of course, but still good.

"Which is why even when technology advances, frail human flesh is still used for some things."

"Well, it is tremendously flexible," Triela agreed. "And," she grinned, "everyone has some."

"Lucky everyone."

She shook her head.

Triela snorted and rolled her eyes. "Somehow I don't think that's quite how I'd put it."

"How would you put it then?"

"I think... not lucky or unlucky. Just... the way things are, right?"

"That's what it is to be human."

How very philosophical of her.

"To be born with skin means you're human?" Rosalind didn't agree.

"Oh, not that," Triela waved that off. "But the flesh thing. The raw ability. Just waiting to be trained." She cocked her head. "You know?"

Not that some people weren't hopeless, but that was because they thought wrong, not because they were physically incapable.

"To a degree," she said, considering that. "But animals learn and grow as well."

Triela shrugged. "Sure, but it's not the same. Not exactly." At least not in her head.
