Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of moddable snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

So... yeah.

Enjoy!

Jake had been in a pretty good mood today. Free food and pretty girls to look at did that.

And then there was that scent, the one that brought the all too familiar burning sensation to the back of his throat. Somehow it felt more familiar than the scent of the Moroi and dhampirs.

It was all too obvious how every muscle in his body tense thanks to the whole shirtless thing and the easy smile disappeared, his nose wrinkled in disgust. His height let him easily scan the crowd and then he noticed her. The tiny one, Bella's friend. He knew he wasn't mistaken, the scent made sure of that and he found himself approaching her regardless of the little warning voice at the back of his head. Strange how that voice sounded like Didi.

"What are you doing here?"

Hi, nice to see you too, Alice.

Alice blinked for a moment, just a teensy bit startled to see Jacob when she'd left him and the others just that morning. And then when he started making his way over to her, the being startled went away, because obviously this was "her" Jacob -- she'd thought for a moment that maybe he just looked like him -- or else why would he be coming over to her?

And then she got that greeting and got startled all over again.

"Going to school," she said with her usual cheerfulness, tempered by the slightest bit of caution. Maybe this wasn't her Jacob after all. Because the Jacob she knew was actually civil to her now... though he hadn't always been.

"Here?" he demanded and he wasn't thinking clearly. Wasn't even considering that she might not be the leech he'd argued with in Bella's living room. Even if he would just think about it, that leech hadn't been cheerful.

"Why? Isn't Forks enough anymore that you've got to follow me here?"

"Yes, here," Alice said, getting her back up a little about it. She'd gone through this attitude with him once, now she had to go through it again?

"And I did not follow you," she said archly. A few seconds of trying to decide what to say -- because this obviously wasn't the Jacob she knew, even if it was quite decidedly Jacob -- brought her to say, "I wanted a new experience and Jasper found me a pamphlet about this place, and here I am."

Jasper. The calm one. Jacob's nose wrinkled in disgust at the mention of yet another leech and he couldn't quite help his eyes flicking over the other students, as if he was expecting the whole Cullen family to suddenly appear out of thing air.

"Who else's here?" he wasn't really asking, more commanding an answer. Fuck it, he wasn't playing nice. Bella wasn't here to make him.

"Just me," Alice said, folding her arms. There was something amusing about the tiny girl standing up to the larger boy... or there would be to anybody who wasn't the two of them.

Definitely anybody else as Jake looked far from amused, his eyes narrowed in suspicion. He didn't smell anyone else, but he wasn't going to exactly believe her. On principle.

"What did Bella say?" He hadn't exactly been in contact with her, been ignoring his mails and the text messages on his phone, but he wondered if she'd had a hand in this too.

Yeah, that was getting into sticky territory. How did she answer that one without giving anything away?

"She was all for me coming here," Alice finally settled on, because it'd been the truth.

"Tell her I don't want to hear it. Sending a frigging leech isn't going to make it better," he snapped. It was so much easier to do when Bella was on the other side of country and Morgana was probably gone.

And then there was the scent, burning his throat and why could they not leave him alone? Wasn't it enough already?

"Considering that I'm not here to have anything to do with you, I'm not telling her anything," Alice said. "We didn't even know you were here!"

It might've made a difference.

That at least derailed his self righteous mood for an instant and he blinked at her. "Bella didn't tell you? I thought you were BFFs and everything."

Okay, so the snide remark just had to go in.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you, so let's just go with there was no reason for her to tell me you were here."

"Sure, sure," he said dryly. She was right, he wasn't believing her. "You realize there's no treaty line here?"

Actually, he did well to remember it himself. He could run into her, get stuck in class with her.

"No, there's not," she said. "And your point is?"

"You slip up and I'll be there," he warned. Whatever Rose had tried to get into his thick skull about not all leeches being bad was completely forgotten.

That and that he was going to be grumpy for a very long time to come.

"Let me just point out that you are not my keeper here," Alice said. "You may be able to get away with it back home, but not here."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Not the kind of slipping up he meant, Alice.

"I'm not anyone's keeper," he snapped. "Least of all a frigging leech's."

Re: General Mingling (Summer 2010)

[identity profile] aliceseesthings.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
All she said was, "So you stay away from me and I'll be more than happy to stay away from you. You'll have two Alice Cullen-free years, trust me."

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
He couldn't argue with that. Actually, he could but it sounded like the best solution which wouldn't get Didi pissed off at him.

Wait, he probably should have told her that. Which meant she got there first and that was kind of annoying. Stupid leech. "Fine. I'm keeping you to that," he assured her.

"This does not count for any classes we might have ended up in together, if we ended up in any," she said. "Or any reason the school might throw us together. Outside of those circumstances, I promise to avoid you to the best of my abilities."

She paused.

"At least we're not roommates."

There might've been a hint of a smile there.

For one moment Jacob's eyes widened and he might just have to do something really nice for Bod soon. Just to show how much he appreciated him. Not in a gay way.

"I'd go sleep outside," he shot back. "Fine, you've got yourself a deal."
