The weather was still lovely, of course. And there were all these neat tables of moddable snackies to help break those awkward silences that were so common with teenage get-togethers.

Aww! It seemed so nice to Ariel that Jaina seemed to think she was doing a good job at this whole nonverbal communication thing; her hands folded over her chest and she beamed with appreciative pride. Then she just sort of shrugged, rolling her eyes modestly with a well, you know, I do my best...

Aww, Jaina liked her. "So are you from around here, or ust really glad to be at a new school?" she wondered.

Well, Ariel didn't know about a new school, but she was absolutely thrilled to be in a whole new world. She didn't exactly want to get too much into detail as to where she was coming from, wanting to seem as human as possible, so she just gestured grandly with one hand, sweeping back over her shoulder to indicate some great, wide journey that brought her here from far, far away.

"I'm taking that as a no," she decided, still smiling a little. "I'd offer you a pen and paper or something, but I have to say, this is just a lot more fun."

Also she got the impression at least today that Ariel would fill up the paper in about ten seconds and then need more.

Ariel gave a soundless snort, quickly becoming one of her most used expressions, and held out her hand. Oh, yeah, fun for who? She gave Jaina a look that made it clear that it was easy for her to say that. But she was grinning as she did, holding no grudge for the more verbally gifted. This was, after all, a choice she had consciously made.

"I know, weird thing to say," she admitted. "But you said it's temporary, right?" At least she thought that's what that had meant.

Ariel drew in a hesitant sort of breath, the sort of breath that clearly said it's complicated. Followed by a look that said hopefully? And then one that wondered if she could actually get away with telling people why she couldn't talk. Maybe Jaina could even help. Had there been anything in the deal that barred her from getting help from people?

She's have to think about that one.

She knew all about complications, so she got that. "I'm sure it'll come back," she said, as confidently as possible while talking about something she didn't know.

And even the smallest bit of confidence was encouraging. Sure, Ariel knew that Jaina couldn't have a clue what was really going on, but she was trying to stay positive and figured that, even if Jaina did know, she'd totally believe that Ariel could snag that kiss in time to get her voice back before having to give herself to Ursula.

So her smile said thank you and her resolute nod made it clear that Ariel was determined that, yes, it would.
