BWI Airport, Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

So everyone else had, like, dramatic backstories and reasons to show up here and stuff. Which was fine, you know, if you were emotionally in the zone enough to go to those kinda lengths. Denise had just been, you know, chilling with her dad last night watching some hockey guys really pound in on each other - no, seriously, really get into it. One of them broke a rib or something, which was kinda cool.

Then she'd been dropped off at the airport, gotten a ticket stuffed into her hands, and that was that. No reason to get all dramatic and touchy-feely about it.

And now it was Saturday morning and she was on the airport. Sitting around. Chugging water and listening to her discman while watching the kids down the hall, trying to figure out how they were gonna croak. Sure, there was some kind of shuttle supposed to show up, but it wasn't there yet. A girl had to keep herself busy.

She figured the dweebs starting to mill around the terminal were probably classmates or something. Lame.

[[ wait for the ocd up! ]]

"Hi," Vance said, giving a wave. "Heading to Fandom with the rest of us?"

...someone not Medusa was speaking to him. This was a novel experience.

Blackagar nodded amicably before mimicking his wave. It might have been some sort of human custom he needed to know in order to fit in.

Yes, that had to be it.

It seemed normal enough for Vance at the moment. "We're just waiting on the shuttle. It should be here sometime soon. I'm Vance, by the way."

Blackagar smiled, hoping to appear friendly and most importantly human about it. He looked over toward Medusa before deciding he could manage on his own.

Placing a hand on his throat, he shook his head. That ought to get the point across, right?

It took Vance a second before he realized, "Oh, wait, you can't talk? I'm sorry. Do you know sign language?" Vance knew about half the letters and a couple words, and all that was just because it was in a textbook one time. If Blackagar was going to communicate with sign language, it would have to be very carefully phrased messages conveyed slowly.

Sign language? Unless he meant how Medusa was able to understand him, that was a rather big no.

Blackagar shook his head, nixing that option more obviously for the boy's sake.

"Well, that'll make introductions a little tough," Vance said. He was a little relieved, though. There was only so much conversation you could have about a cat running. "If my notebooks weren't buried in my suitcase, I'd at least give you something to write on. Sorry about that."

Blackagar rubbed the back of his head before pointing over at Medusa. And then back at himself.

And then right back to her.

They were together. That was something at least.

"You know her?" Vance guessed. "Well, at least somebody might know your name."

He nodded with as much enthusiasm as was befitting the situation. Okay, perhaps just a bit more. There was talking of sorts going on.

"I'll go check in with her," Vance said. "It was nice meeting you."
