So everyone else had, like, dramatic backstories and reasons to show up here and stuff. Which was fine, you know, if you were emotionally in the zone enough to go to those kinda lengths. Denise had just been, you know, chilling with her dad last night watching some hockey guys really pound in on each other - no, seriously, really get into it. One of them broke a rib or something, which was kinda cool.

Then she'd been dropped off at the airport, gotten a ticket stuffed into her hands, and that was that. No reason to get all dramatic and touchy-feely about it.

And now it was Saturday morning and she was on the airport. Sitting around. Chugging water and listening to her discman while watching the kids down the hall, trying to figure out how they were gonna croak. Sure, there was some kind of shuttle supposed to show up, but it wasn't there yet. A girl had to keep herself busy.

She figured the dweebs starting to mill around the terminal were probably classmates or something. Lame.

"My mother believes that the five months I have here before I'm considered of competent adult age will make me change my mind," Peter said.

"Ah," Christian said. "Just like mine is convinced they'll make a worker bee out of me. But does that mean this is your last year, too? I'm never certain how American grades match with ours."

"It does," Peter said. "And I'll admit, it's nice hearing that there's another guy in the same sort of boat. Maybe we can both prove our respective parents wrong."

"Or at least fail spectacularly, if we have to fail," Christian nodded. "It was good to meet you. I'll watch for you on campus."

"I'll keep an eye out," Peter said. "You at least seem more sane than the girl I met."

"Did you talk to the one who said the largest city on the planet was called Midgar?" Christian asked.

Sorry, Rosalind.

"Delerium didn't mention anything about a Midgar," Peter said. "But she invited herself to a surprise piggyback ride and proceeded to tell me she was forever. A little bit of a toker, if you ask me."

"She's named Delirium," Christian said, shrugging a little. "You'd expect her to be creative. The Midgar one is Rosalind. She seemed normal until that."

"I don't exactly tie drugs with creativity," Peter said. "At least, not in any casual relationship."
