BWI Airport, Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

So everyone else had, like, dramatic backstories and reasons to show up here and stuff. Which was fine, you know, if you were emotionally in the zone enough to go to those kinda lengths. Denise had just been, you know, chilling with her dad last night watching some hockey guys really pound in on each other - no, seriously, really get into it. One of them broke a rib or something, which was kinda cool.

Then she'd been dropped off at the airport, gotten a ticket stuffed into her hands, and that was that. No reason to get all dramatic and touchy-feely about it.

And now it was Saturday morning and she was on the airport. Sitting around. Chugging water and listening to her discman while watching the kids down the hall, trying to figure out how they were gonna croak. Sure, there was some kind of shuttle supposed to show up, but it wasn't there yet. A girl had to keep herself busy.

She figured the dweebs starting to mill around the terminal were probably classmates or something. Lame.

[[ wait for the ocd up! ]]

Del simply negated as she stood, dusting her clothes as she did. "Nononono, it's a very, um, good dog. Like Barnabas." But Barnabas talked. Oh well. "Good dog."

"She's very well trained," Rinoa said.

Seriously. The other girl didn't know the half of it.

"Rinoa Heartilly. Is Barnabas your dog?"

"She is!" Del didn't know, and honestly didn't care; Angelo had a place on her hearth already.

"Delirium of the Endless. Barnabas is, um, Destruction's gift. Guardian. Um, dog." And as if she hadn't said it enough times. "I miss him."

"Your name is Delirium?" She certainly seemed to be embracing it. With a name like that, you would have to either dive in or call yourself by your initials and never speak to your parents again. "What happened to Barnabas?"

"Yes!" When your siblings were Destiny, Dream, Death, Desire, Destruction and Despair, Delirium seemed like a very average name. "But I was also, um, Delight, a long long long long, um, long long time ago." But she wasn't going to say more about those affairs.

"...I'm not, eh, um...entirely sure." She hoped the dog would find her eventually. He was a smart dog after all.

"Do you like being Delirium more?" Rinoa asked, assuming this was simply a name change. "I used to be a Caraway, but I'm a Heartilly now."

Much better name all the way around. And it kept people in Timber from realizing she was General Caraway's daughter.

"Don't worry. Most dogs find their way home eventually. I don't know how Angelo finds me, half the time."

"Um, maybe? It was required, so I didn't, didn't get much of a choice. Required. To. Happen. Heartilly is cute."

In her case, Del's name reflected a lot of her, so she couldn't really get rid of it unless...stuff happened.

"You think?" Maybe Barnabas would come then! "Smart god." Although it was unclear just which dog she was addressing.

"That's not fair," Rinoa frowned. "That someone made you change it. Who gave them the right? It's your name. And Heartilly was my mother's last name, before she married him."

Totally a respectful way of referring to your own father. Yessir.

"I think most dogs are smart," she said. "Or maybe we lucked out and found the smart ones."

Del shrugged. "It's fine. It happened, eh, a long, long time ago." And she really wanted to leave it like that.

Luckily(?) Del didn't have a father.

"Maybe we, um, lucked out." She wanted to think that anyway.
