BWI Airport, Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

So everyone else had, like, dramatic backstories and reasons to show up here and stuff. Which was fine, you know, if you were emotionally in the zone enough to go to those kinda lengths. Denise had just been, you know, chilling with her dad last night watching some hockey guys really pound in on each other - no, seriously, really get into it. One of them broke a rib or something, which was kinda cool.

Then she'd been dropped off at the airport, gotten a ticket stuffed into her hands, and that was that. No reason to get all dramatic and touchy-feely about it.

And now it was Saturday morning and she was on the airport. Sitting around. Chugging water and listening to her discman while watching the kids down the hall, trying to figure out how they were gonna croak. Sure, there was some kind of shuttle supposed to show up, but it wasn't there yet. A girl had to keep herself busy.

She figured the dweebs starting to mill around the terminal were probably classmates or something. Lame.

[[ wait for the ocd up! ]]

"There are seats," Rosalind said, in response to that awkward wave. "If you'd care to use them."

Not quite an order, at least? All prettied up with a 'if you'd care'.

"Yeah, they look like nice seats." More with the awkward. "But, uh, I think I'll stand. Plenty of time to sit on the shuttle, right?"

She knew how dumb that sounded, so she quickly changed topics. "So, you're going to this camp, too?"

Unfortunately, yes.

Rosalind didn't say that though. "Camp?" she asked. "I was informed it is a high school."

... Suddenly she hoped it was only a camp. That meant she'd be allowed to leave sooner. Tseng surely wouldn't keep her after camp was over, would he?

There was a yes implicit in her response. Rosalind considered adding it verbally but didn't. The other girl would pick that up, right? Or maybe it would be better to say it all out...

"I was told it was a camp at a high school by my parents," Lindsay explained. "With weird workshops and arts and crafts or something. The whole thing seems kind of lame."

Lindsay would much rather be following the Grateful Dead on tour. Even being stuck at home all summer would have been better. Maybe.

"I heard it was a safe place," she granted, glancing over at the girl. "Where everyone was 'allowed to be themselves'."

Rosalind was still attempting to decide if Tseng had been implying there was something wrong with her. Hm.

"I wonder if that works for people who don't really know who they are, yet?" Lindsay wondered out loud. She shrugged and then offered a more friendly smile. "I can at least tell you my name. I'm Lindsay."

"Rosalind," she replied. "It's nice to meet you."

In some sense of the word. For one, it was polite to say so. And who knew, perhaps the girl wouldn't be... well. "Perhaps it is more about the journey than the destination?"

... Sure. She had no idea.

"Nice to meet you, too." At least the other girl seemed nice enough. "I think that's a good way to look this whole situation. The journey thing."

There was no good way to look at it.

"Or it's something they've decided sounded good in the pamphlet," Rosalind sighed. "Nothing to do about it now. We can't exactly not show up."

Tseng would be Not Impressed in all sorts of ways.

"You're right about that," Lindsay sighed. "My parents would have a meltdown if I didn't show up."

"Are they... determined for you to get an education?" she asked, feeling like that was the most awkward question on The Planet.

Only she wasn't on The Planet, right now.

"More like they want to keep me out of trouble," Lindsay admitted. The education part was easy enough. She already was a straight A student. "So, why are you going?"

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
"To keep trouble from finding me," she said, aiming for light. "They were convinced that it would follow me."

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Lindsay believed she was joking and did not even question it. "Yeah, my parents pretty much feel the same way."

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Rosalind briefly toyed with letting Tseng know people were assuming she spoke of her parents when she said she'd been sent here.

... She probably wouldn't.

"Does trouble follow you?" she asked instead.

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Not really. My parents just don't really like some of the friends I've been hanging out with," Lindsay admitted. "But they're really not so bad. How about you?"

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
... Crap. She had to lie now, didn't she?

"Got a few people who thought it would be fun to make a target of me," she said carefully. "It seemed prudent to relocate--more of a hassle than anything else, but better safe than sorry. Some of them were pretty rough."

And she was a pretty little blonde in a suit. Please let the Lindsay think she was talking about bullying or something similar.

"Oh man. My brother has been dealing with that, too," Lindsay said, totally believing Rosalind was talking about bullying. "I'm sorry it got so bad you had to leave. But maybe this place will be better and safer like you said."

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Just have to stay out of trouble," she agreed, smiling thinly. And making a mental note to try and... stick with that story. It would go well with her 'accident'. "Which so far doesn't seem like a problem."

Careful Rosalind, you weren't even on the island yet.

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe we can try to keep each other out of trouble?" Lindsay suggested.

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Rosalind looked startled; unsure. Like she hadn't expected something like that.

"I..." What to say to that? "I think I'd like that."

She was just going to... be confused about it.

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
"I mean, like, keep an eye out. Make sure no jerks are lurking," Lindsay clarified.

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] give-areason.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
"That much," she said, with a regal nod. "I can do. Watch your back."

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] mathletenomore.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Cool," Lindsay said, feeling like maybe she could be friends with this girl.
