BWI Airport, Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

So everyone else had, like, dramatic backstories and reasons to show up here and stuff. Which was fine, you know, if you were emotionally in the zone enough to go to those kinda lengths. Denise had just been, you know, chilling with her dad last night watching some hockey guys really pound in on each other - no, seriously, really get into it. One of them broke a rib or something, which was kinda cool.

Then she'd been dropped off at the airport, gotten a ticket stuffed into her hands, and that was that. No reason to get all dramatic and touchy-feely about it.

And now it was Saturday morning and she was on the airport. Sitting around. Chugging water and listening to her discman while watching the kids down the hall, trying to figure out how they were gonna croak. Sure, there was some kind of shuttle supposed to show up, but it wasn't there yet. A girl had to keep herself busy.

She figured the dweebs starting to mill around the terminal were probably classmates or something. Lame.

Rinoa Caraway Heartilly had run away from home at age 16 with only a duffel bag over her shoulder. Well, and a rolling suitcase or two. And some money, but the point was? She had left most of her stuff behind, before accumulating new stuff.

She really hated to do all of that over again, was all. So she had probably brought more than she strictly needed, but even Edea couldn't say how long she'd be here, so it was better to be prepared.

Squall was being all manly-man and insisting on carrying most of it, and she'd gotten tired quickly of fighting him about it, so she'd put Angelo on a leash and let him fight with the suitcases.

She was not exactly sure why he needed to come all the way out to her new school before going back again, but he was probably just being protective again. Very sweet of him. She was not going to think about how much she'd miss him.

When she reached the lounge, she found a seat before unclipping Angelo from her leash -- she was too much of a good girl to go wandering off, thankfully, instead sitting by Rinoa's feet and staying alert.

She smiled at the others. They must be her new classmates-to-be! She waved at anyone who glanced, wondering who to approach first.

(all squall-modding done with permission! no, she doesn't realize he's staying, just yet. HELLO PEOPLES!)

Squall sat down next to her and rubbed his shoulder where it ached from carrying the luggage.

(Wow, there's a lot of people here.)

He looked the room over appraisingly from behind his bangs, trying to gauge if anyone was dangerous.

"Told you you should've let me help," she grinned. "It's my luggage, anyway. People are going to think you're my servant. You should bow a lot and say 'Very good, miss.'"

Squall shrugged. "Whatever. I offered to carry them, so I did."

As far as he could tell, no Galbadian soldiers had followed them through the portal, and no Estharian soldiers either. They were safe -- for now.

"So what's the next move?" she asked, tilting her head at him. "Invade Esthar, looking for Adel? Make sure Ellone's safe? Let Selphie fly around some more?"

There was something really amusing about that girl's "Woo-hoo, we're flying!"

Squall shrugged. "I dunno. Maybe Dr. Odine has some useful information. Whatever."

(Quistis can handle it.)
angelo_wings: ([ros] i guess i'll consider it)

"He didn't seem very nice," Rinoa admitted, playing idly with a strand of hair. "I shouldn't say that, if he helped me, but I don't think I'd trust him."

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] whateverknight.livejournal.com 2010-05-07 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course not," Squall replied. He watched her play with her hair. "You shouldn't trust him at ALL. That doesn't mean he doesn't have valuable information."

"But you don't trust anyone," she noted, "so I can't really take your opinion for it."

Seriously. She was surprised Squall wasn't glaring at the other students, in case they were secret dangerous operatives or something.

Not glaring, appraising!

Some of them might or might not be secret dangerous operatives, but he was pretty sure he could take 'em.

"Trust me," he told her. "Dr. Odine is up to no good. He's also the only expert they've got."

"So you'll be extra-careful, right?" Rinoa frowned, not liking the thought of that. "When you go back to face him. Are they all just waiting for you? Seems like a waste of a few days, just so you can see me off."

If she still thought he was going back to Garden, he wasn't going to correct her just yet. He'd already had that fight with Quistis, and didn't want to have to explain all his arguments again.

"...Yeah," he answered. "I'll be extra careful the next time I see him."

"Good," she declared. She rested her hands on her lap for a long moment. "I'm still not sure this is such a great idea. No matter what Edea says."

He'd make sure of it.

"And you'll come running if I'm not," she said, nodding. "Part of the job description, you know. Unless you've changed your mind about knighting ... ?"

If she had to be a Sorceress, at least she got to tease Squall about it.

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] whateverknight.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Never. He'd never change his mind, ever. He'd still be her knight no matter what, even if she didn't want him to be, even if she went evil...

"Guess," he answered. Because just telling her what he was thinking was WAY too easy.

"You hate talking about your feelings, don't you?"

It was both a tease and a challenge.

Rinoa laughed, glad to see she wasn't the only one here with some enthusiasm.

"I like your hair."

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] kissytheface.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Believe it or not? It's my natural color," Dandelion confided.

Though really? Not her natural hair color.

"Totally born this way!"

Except for the fact it was not.

"I never dyed it under the orders of the secret government agency that I work for!"

That... Okay that might be true. At least in her head.

"What secret government agency do you absolutely not work for?" Rinoa asked, giggling and catching on to the other girl's game. "And I didn't put streaks in my hair because I thought it'd look cute. Those are natural, too."

"I can't tell you about my secret government agency!" she protested. "I'm not ever allowed to diverge that information! Though I can get you some hair dye. Pink would look good on you!"

"Triple," said Rinoa. "I don't remember which side I'm really working for, though."
