Library [04/21]

Sam was still riding such a high from the play last night - especially from getting to see Dean and Peter - that it took most of the morning for him to realize that today was one of his last shifts in the library. It was kind of a scary thought that led to thinking about how much time he'd spent here over the years, and Sam ended up cleaning so his mind would stay occupied with other things.

"I like being organized," Sam said, looking up from where he was rearranging one of the drawers of the desk. "I wasn't sure if I'd be seeing you today."

"Why wouldn't I show up today?" he asked.

"I figured you'd still be baked from yesterday," Sam said.

"Please, Sam, I'm practically a professional when it comes to getting high," Chuck said. "It takes a lot more than a couple grams of weed to slow me down."

"So you didn't celebrate as hard as I expected? That's good," Sam said with a laugh.

"I had work to do today," he explained with a sigh. "It was my attempt at being responsible."

"Awww, poor Chuck, having to be all responsible," Sam teased. "That's a good thing, I swear."

"It's not very much fun."

"Work, or not getting to smoke up any time you want?" Sam asked.

"Both," he said, rubbing his forehead. "I mean, I do like work but it's just...never mind. It's work. Obviously it's not going to be fun."

There was more to it than that but talking about it would require expressing feelings and we can't be having that.

"Did I tell you I was gonna stay for some of the summer?"

"I think the last time we talked about summer, you hadn't decided yet," Sam said. "Did you decide the business can survive without you for a few more weeks?"

"Something like that." It was nothing like that. "I'm sorry that you'll be stuck with me a few more weeks."

Sam rolled his eyes. "Oh yeah, it'll be so terrible," he said sarcastically. "I was so looking forward to not seeing you anymore at all ever."

Chuck smirked. "I'm going to remember this when you're bitchfacing at me for being super annoying at some point in the near future."

"Well, don't be annoying and then I won't have to bitchface at you," Sam said, like it made perfect sense.

"I'm not annoying on purpose." Riiiiiiiight. "Most of the time."

"Only when you want to see me bitchface," Sam said. "I'm on to you, really."

Chuck smiled and shrugged. "I like the bitchface. I can't help it."

"You like when I'm annoyed?" Sam asked. "Or you just like the face I make?"

"I think it's little bit of both," Chuck decided. "I don't like when you're upset, of course, but it's fun seeing different sides of you sometimes."

"What, to know I have more emotional settings than 'emo?'" Sam teased.

Chuck smirked. "To be honest I'm more surprised when I see something that's not giant geek."

"I'd be more insulted if it weren't for how often my geek skills have been used for good," Sam said. "But yes, I do other things besides be geeky. And bitchfacing is only the tip of the angry iceberg."

"You're not an iceberg," Chuck said. "You're more like a...parfait."

"Because I have layers? Or is that a thinly veiled insult about me being nutty or fruity?" Sam asked.

"The layers thing." Though the fruity thing did hold some merit. "You're too nice to be an iceberg."

Sam couldn't help but get kind of a dorky grin at that. "Thanks," he said. "I'm going to remember you said that, 'cause you're being awfully nice too."

"I'm not nice," Chuck said immediately. "There's just the rare occasion where I feel like being truthful."
