Methos is sitting at the circulation desk reading a stack of printouts. When someone approaches him, he casually closes the folder and places a book atop it. He's relaxed and calm.

*scribbles something down in her notebook* Okay, you take blood out, then put blood in. And whoever you put blood in from is the 'master.' Then you feed it, an' whatever you feed it first is the kind of blood it'll eat. I think. Here, read this page, it's a little confusin'.

So d'you think it'd work to take out a syringeful of blood an' then put in a syringeful of blood? An' I want to know, could I put in Rory's blood? Should I feed it Rory's blood, or would that make it crave humans? I can get blood from NPC Butcher & Sons down in town, I checked.

And how do I even get Rory's blood? Or the vampire blood, for that matter, 'cause I'm not so keen on usin' Angelus'.

Parker re-reads the passage, and taps a fingernail on one part of the translation. "If I understand this archaic and incredibly pompous text, the 'master' has to be a vampire, so even though you want Rory to be it's 'master', that won't work. Maybe keeping it separate from that vampire will, though. Butterfly Brain is still a dog." She adds under her breath, "So far."

She continues reading. "Carouche. That's what you want."

I think Professor Methos just did a straight-up literal translation. S'quicker than figurin' out context, according to the members of my family who actually read Chinese.

Okay. So not a vampire at the school, because then they could control it. That makes it more difficult.

Carouche?

"'That which feeds solely on the fluids -- nice, Doc -- of the lower animals. Its first prey is its preferred dish, its first blood is its sustaining life.' Feed Butterfly Brain cow's blood or animal blood when it first wakes up, it won't ever want to attack Rory." Parker grimaces. "Oh, how I wish someone had force-fed Angelus a gremlin when he rose from the grave."

Animal blood I can get easy, an' I think I've got the procedure figured out--like I said, syringes. The Puppy's wee; it shouldn' take much.

But I have to get the vampire blood, is the squallin' problem. *drums pen against table* Squall. I'm fresh out of ideas.

"You *really* want to do this? You're sure it's what Rory would want?" Parker looks dubious. "Because I'm sure there's a shop, or a website, or some shady-as-hell backstreet dealer that could get you carouche vampire blood, if you had the money."

I wouldn' be surprised.

*thinks for a moment* There's no way they can get it here by tomorrow. I'll haveta owe her a vampin', an' that way we can make sure it's what she wants before we go an' do it.

Parker looks relieved. "Good idea. Because I'm not even sure this would work. I mean, if it goes according to the book it will, but who knows if that's complete. You might just end up with a deceased puppy." She folds her arms. "You still have Mad Redding's phone number, right?"

Yeah, o' course. Though callin' him to tell him, "Hey, we killed the dog, can we have another one an' see if it works this time?" wouldn' go over real cream.

"One more reason to be really, really sure about this, Zero."

*rolls eyes* I know that.

Parker holds out her hands, palms out. "Just sayin'."

[Jack avoids libraries but if you leave him a voicemail he's totally on a spending spree and wouldn't mind paying the extra money to overnight ship some special blood from half-way across the world.]
