Journalism Class - Thursday October 20
Spider is staring suspiciously at a bowl of cold cereal which is resting on the center of his desk. Beside it sits a box with a goofy looking cartoon character with a large, blue hat. Waiting until his students are mostly settled, he finally looks up to address them.
"We've dealt with a number of shifts in personality, disguises, extreme body modification and outright impersonations since the beginning of the term. A surprisingly small number of people have questioned any of these things or even caught on to them in a timely fashion and I'm becoming somewhat disappointed in the way that you, aspiring journalists, have ceased to question some of these issues. Professor Williams is a very good case in point. Mugged, impersonated...." Spider shook his head sadly. "You're supposed to be journalists, people whose job it is to get to the heart and truth of the matter, not only to expose the truth... but to discover the lies."
He prodded cautiously at the bowl, which continued to do nothing. "Exposing the hidden truth is the very heart of journalism. Reading the subtext, hearing the things which aren't said, learning to pick and choose the things that are true from an interview or investigation are what I'm supposed to be teaching you. I want every student today to make three statements. Two of them should be true, one of them should be false - all should be plausible. I want each student to examine the statements made by the others and decide which is the false statement."

He nods, afterwards. "Actually I did take the SAT last year; I'm doing senior year over because my graduating class kinda got evacuated before that all-important graduation thing. But not so much with the high scoring."

"Sucks about the SAT, though," she sympathizes, "Maybe you can cite extenuating circs and take it again this year? Maybe not having all the demons running around will help you concentrate better or something." She pauses, mouth quirking in a wry smile, "Not that this school is any more condusive to study, that is."

He looks singularly unenthused about the prospect of taking the SAT again, but nods. "Yeah, they'll probably let me take the test again - I think they let you take it more than once anyway; I just really felt more like voluntarily getting all my teeth pulled than filling in any more little circles, when I got the stats back the first time."

"Angelus.. strangely, doesn't seem as bad as people make him out to be. It's interesting to watch. The vry.. vampires of my time were.." Duce considers how to word it, "significantly less urbane."
Commisserating even if she can't spell that word, Duce offers, "Yeah, but if you get a higher score, that's pride-points, right? Although the toothless thing has merit if you wante.. yah. Stopping that derail into vulgarsville riiiight there."

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about and if I did I would never do it because I enjoy only to look at the bosoms and never to think about doing anything that being toothless would be an advantage for."I am not touch that with a ten foot.... anything," Xander answers. "As for Angelus... not saying the guy doesn't clean up good. But he's playing everybody for saps. Doesn't mean you are saps -- just means he's damn good at twisting the truth."

Of course, because Xander totally isn't the gayest straight boy on campus.A small smile curls her lips, "Oh, he's very good at that. That's why it's so fun to watch. The way people believe him.. we swear, it's fine art." Her brow furrows slightly, "So.. if you all Sunnydalians know how truly bad he is, why hasn't anyone caught him off campus and given him the kind of gift that really melts the heart? Not," Duce amends, "that we'd be happy to see it.. he's far too damn amusing to us at the moment. But it does make us curious why nobody's actually done anything about him, if he's so awful."

In no way has Xander not arranged to have Angel killed because he enjoys the leather pants. For shame!Xander tries not to let any inkling of any plans that might already be in place on that score show on his face. "The devil you know? At least here on campus he's relatively under control for the moment, at least as far as we know. And no bodies have showed up with major anemia or barbecue-fork wounds in town, that I've heard of."
In a somewhat quiet voice, he adds, "Also... not that I'm against it per se, but I'm pretty sure it would do Buffy in, to, well, do him in. She's already done it once, and it kinda broke her."

And in no way would Duce help you kill him for the leather pants because ZOMG the player just saw the episode with Vampire!Xander and he filled the pants out nicely"He's been," she drawls with absolute irony, "a perfect angel. Sad, really. Huh. We don't understand that whole Buffy thing. We mean.. he's a vampire. By definition, soulless, evil, humanoid bits of destruction and chaos. And she dated that?" She sighs, "Though, we're probably not one to talk, living with.. Oz."

Duce sounds honestly puzzled, "Maybe it's one of those cross culture things.. in our world, a vampire with a soul.. totally impossible. They'd burst into flames and die or something."

Duce shakes her head, disgusted, "Leave it to one of them to think up the lamest and most non-productive curse ever. Obviously, he got over that whole soul thing. Unless eternal irritation was all they were going for.. not so smoothe on the curse business."
Grinning sunnily, she adds, "Glad he's the only one. Could you imagine two of him at once?"
